Alex Bellegarde: New CD and New Festival

Bassist Alex Bellegarde, a prominent player on the Montreal scene, will perform July 7th at Montreal's 2006 Festival International de Jazz and releases June 27th 2006 his new CD Caminando on Justin Time Records. An energetic and broadminded player, he collaborates with a wide range of musicians, poets, actors and visual artists and creates music drawn from a wealth of sources. His compositions, along with a great performance by his quartet, won the coveted General Motors Grand Jazz Award at the 2005 Festival International de Jazz de Montreal.

For Alex Bellegarde, "jazz and world rhythms are the very pulse of the earth" and he wants his music to reflect this. Music which also makes the best of each musician's unique style: Cuban-born pianist Yoel Diaz with his rich Latin presence, alto saxophonist Erik Hove with his original tones, Yvon Plouffe, a drummer with plenty of experience with different musical styles. Guest percussionist Cuban- born Orlando Lavielle on congas, joins them for the recording of Caminando .

At Festival International de Jazz de Montreal Alex Bellegarde Quartet, joined for the performance by guest Cuban-born percussionist Kiko Osorio, will play a selection of compositions from the new album Caminando. During the Festival International de Jazz de Montreal period, Alex Bellegarde will also be playing a series of shows down in the festival quarter: les Nuits de Montreal, at Nyks club, 1250 Rue Bleury.
