Herbie Hancock will play at 2006 Indy Jazz Fest

The American Pianists Association has announced a change to the artist line-up schedule for the 2006 Indy Jazz Fest presented by Kroger, held June 16 -18 in Indianapolis . Due to a medical condition, legendary trumpeter, Wynton Marsalis, has cancelled his appearances at several summer festivals, including the 2006 Indy Jazz Fest. Herbie Hancock, the internationally known acoustic, electronic jazz and R & B performer, will perform instead.

Helen Small, president and CEO of the APA, noted that Hancock's music spans several generations and that his performance is scheduled on Father's Day. "Herbie Hancock is a class act and families have an excellent opportunity to give Dad a unique gift this year--live performances from Herbie Hancock and all of the high-caliber artists at the Indy Jazz Fest presented by Kroger, " Small said.

The mission of the American Pianists Association is to discover, promote and advance the careers of world-class, American, classical and jazz pianists who are between the ages of 18 and 30. Through competitions, fellowships and career management assistance, the Association enhances and promotes the performing artistry of American pianists, enriching their lives and the lives of audiences worldwide. In addition, the American Pianists Association assumed control of Indy Jazz Fest in 2003, which it now leads and manages.
