Ben Kogan is returning to Boston

University of Miami graduate bassist Ben Kogan is returning to Boston with his rock band The Skinny to promote their self-titled debut album. The Skinny consists of 5 musicians who attend the University of Miami in Coral Gables, Florida. Having been together for only a year, they have played almost every major club offering live music in Miami, released a full-length album of original material and begun their own record company: U5 Records.

In a conversation with Kogan, he said, "I can't wait to come home to Boston and show them what I've got here. This is gonna be really fun."

Kogan grew up in Framingham, MA. There, he played in multiple rock bands, gaining experience and building his repertoire. During high school he honed his craft by learning how to play jazz. Influenced by the music program at Framingham High School, he decided to attend the jazz prep program at the New England Conservatory.

In high school he played in a jazz group called the Todd Gaynor Quartet. They played at the Natick Performing Arts center multiple times as well as other places around Boston. Continuing his passion for music, Kogan pursued his education at one of the country's best music schools, The University of Miami. Once at school, he began his search to put together an original rock band. Finding the right players, the right songs and the right attitude was not an easy task in the midst of all that jazz, but many years of hard work has finally paid off.
