Rale Micic Quintet To Feature Famed Trumpeter At Blues Alley

"The premier trumpeter of his generation" wrote David Hajdu in Entertainment Weekly. "A master of melody" said Tom Masland of Newsweek. "A brilliant trumpeter, flugelhornist and composer" wrote Whitney Balliett in the New Yorker about Tom Harrell. Mr. Harrell and his trumpet will be one of the features of the Washington concerts by the Rale Micic Quintet which will take place on Wednesday evening, May 31 at Blues Alley.

The honors and recognition accorded to Mr. Harrell are many. He has received critics and readers awards for best trumpet every year since 1977; JazzTime's critics' choice awards for his albums, "Visions", "Passages", and "Upswing"; a Prix Oscar for "Form", award from the French Academy of Jazz; and nominationfor the danish JazzPar prize.

Harrell's release, "Time's Mirror" won a Grammy nomination and his Latin CD, "The Art of Rhythm", was named Best Jazz Album of the Year by Entertainment Weekly.

In addiotion to Tom Harrell, other members of the Rale Micic Quintet are guitar virtuoso and composer, Rale Micic, tenor saxophonist, Bob Reynolds, a three time recipient of ASCAP awards, Sean Conly, Bassist, and Obed Calvaire, Drums. Mr. Calvaire holds a Masters degree in drums and performs with many major jazz artists including Wynton Marsalis.
