Memorial Event for Rafiq Babayev in Baku Jazz Centre

by Baku Jazz Center

On 30th March the Jazz Centre organised a memorial evening dedicated to legendary Azerbaijani jazz pianist, composer and arranger, Rafiq Babayev. His family, friends and admirers were invited and were shown a film about the life and work of a musician who was struck down in his prime. Rafig Babayev's tragic death shook both Azerbaijan and the wider world. The explosion in the Metro abruptly ended the life of a wonderful musician and man of great humour who had lived a full and creative life. He could have done a lot more for his art and for the rising generation.

Director Eldar Guliyev said, "Rafig claimed that he would express himself as a patriot by his creativity. He believed that only a creative person could be useful to his country!" The death of Rafig, a peace-loving man of the highest sentiments, aroused revulsion against evil and violence, war and terrorism. Rafig Babayev was one of those strong personalities who will live in the memory forever.
