9 and Zen Adds Mark Hutchinson

Montana based improvisational/experimental/funk/jazz/fusion group 9 and Zen recently added a new trumpeteer: Mark Hutchinson. Mark Hutchinson has been playing trumpet professionally for over twenty years. He was recipient of the Louis Armsrtong Award for Jazz Improvisation, and much of his work has been in that genere. He has recorded with MoonSka NYC artists the Skoidats and toured extensively with Radical Records group Inspecter 7.

He has also performed with Megalith Records artists Hub City Stompers and has recorded at Version City Studios with well known NYC artist King Django. He has a long running collaboration with Justin Dillavou of the Skoidats and Jared Watkins of Cigarette Lunch, titled Revolution Street. The project is a reggae hybrid to be released soon. Mark has performed at a variety of landmark clubs including NYC's CBGB and The Knitting Factory. Mark has shared the stage with established artists including Toots Theilmans, The Brecker Brothers, Air Supply, The Toasters, Mikey Dread, and many others. He is active performing and recording with artists throughout the Northwest and is currently recording his first collection of original compositions to be titled Dark City Jazz. He is very excited to be a part of the new 9andZen lineup. His horn adds a melodic thread to the group's rhythmic expertise, and is reminiscent of Miles Davis, Mark Isham, Chet Baker and Tomasz Stanko.
