New England based Jazz Singer at Cornelia St Cafe

On Thursday, April 13th Cornelia St Cafe will showcase an up and coming vocal jazz talent; Chris Humphrey, Cadence Jazz Records recording artist. Humphrey will perform two sets featuring his unique abilities as composer, improviser and arranger. A vast array of material will be presented including standards, original compositions and modern pieces from his upcoming CD debut; "Nothing But Blue Sky". Humphrey will be backed by Mark Shilansky on piano, Martin Wind on bass and Tim Horner on drums. Cornelia Street Cafe is located at 29 Cornelia St between Bleecker and West 4th.

A jazz vocalist, whose primary focus is the use of the voice as an instrument, Chris Humphrey is an improviser and composer as well as an interpreter of song. He is a veteran jazz singer, having worked with Denon recording artists, The Ritz, and vocal jazz quintet, Vocalese. With The Ritz, he recorded the CD "Almost Blue", which featured his singing, composing, and arranging talents. As a soloist, Mr. Humphrey has been dubbed an "outstanding talent" (Sheila Jordan) and "a creative force" (Roberta Davis) by critics and performers who have heard his work. He has performed at Blue Note Jazz Clubs in New York, Tokyo, Jakarta, and Fukuoka, Japan. He has also appeared at numerous jazz festivals throughout the United States and abroad. He steps out on his own for a debut CD as a leader, which was recorded in New York City in 2005 with Matt Wilson, drums, Martin Wind, bass and Mark Shilansky, piano....
