Steve Tyrell: The Disney Standards

Acclaimed standards vocalist Steve Tyrell and the industry's #1 family music label are proud to present a heartwarming new collaboration - Steve Tyrell: The Disney Standards. The release makes its debut in stores February 28, 2006 on Walt Disney Records.

Steve Tyrell: The Disney Standards pays loving tribute to the richly varied musical memories originally created for the Disney animated features cherished around the globe. Respected as a torch-bearer for the preservation of The Great American Songbook, Tyrell takes to the canon of Disney classics with mastery and ease. The earthen warmth and character of his instantly recognizable voice are a perfect fit for these character-driven movie masterpieces. "They're not a complete departure from what I do, " Tyrell says of the Magic Kingdom classics, "yet they're unlike anything I've ever done."

The 14-song CD will be cross-promoted with a touching music video clip for the song "Bella Notte" that will be included as a bonus feature on every copy of the inaugural 50th Anniversary Special Edition DVD of Lady and The Tramp (which will be released in stores the same day as The Disney Standards). Among the highlights of the charming CD is a duet with native New Orleans music superstar Dr. John - also in possession of an unmistakable voice - on a rollicking rendition of "You've Got a Friend in Me, " the delightful ditty penned by renowned Randy Newman for the 1995 movie Toy Story. Tyrell remarks, "I am thrilled to have had the opportunity to sing this great song with my buddy Mac Rebennack (the good Dr.'s real name), who I have been friends with since I started my career back in the '60s."

For The Disney Standards, Steve (with the assistance of his daughters Tina and Lauryn) personally selected Disney songs spanning a variety of moods, including "A Dream Is a Wish Your Heart Makes" (from Cinderella), "Baby Mine" (from Dumbo), "Beauty and the Beast, " "Cruella De Vil" (from 101 Dalmatians), "Kiss the Girl" (from The Little Mermaid), "Once Upon a Dream" (from Sleeping Beauty) and "When She Loved Me" (from Disney-Pixar's Toy Story 2). Also featured on Steve Tyrell: The Disney Standards are trumpeter Chris Botti (on "When You Wish Upon a Star" from Pinocchio) and alto saxophonist Dave Koz (on the Phil Collins-penned "You'll Be in My Heart" from Tarzan). Tyrell will add many of these song gems to his burgeoning concert standards repertoire throughout the year, including key shows with the Boston Pops, the Houston Symphony and a European summer tour.

Ever since his serendipitous on-screen performance of "The Way You Look Tonight" in the 1991 Buena Vista film Father of the Bride, behind-the-scenes TV and movie music pioneer Steve Tyrell has been successfully pursuing a long-desired singing career. He has released five albums saluting The Great American Songbook - all Top 5 Billboard jazz charters - including his 2005 Songs of Sinatra set.
