Debut of Jazz Vocalist Kurt Reichenbach

The Night Was Blue marks the recording debut of jazz vocalist Kurt Reichenbach, son of Bossa Nova pioneering drummer Bill Reichenbach Sr. (Tommy and Jimmy Dorsey, Charlie Byrd), and brother of internationally renowned trombonist Bill Reichenbach (Quincy Jones, Barbara Streisand). With his sly interpretations of the Great American Songbook, Reichenbach earns recognition as a formidable talent by critics and musicians alike. His intimate, mellow vocal delivery has drawn comparisons to such jazz legends as Chet Baker, Mel Torme, and Bobby Darin. Jazz columnist Christopher Loudon writes, “… one of the most dynamic vocal debuts of the past decade… a truly impressive new guy… who can stand shoulder to shoulder with the likes of Kurt Elling, John Pizzarelli and Curtis Stigers….” The CD will be released March 14, 2006 by Aughight/ GoldTone/ Bungalo and distributed by Universal Music & Video Distribution.

Reichenbach is joined by a who’s who of stellar jazz artists. The superlative rhythm section is comprised of drummer-dad Bill Reichenbach Sr., pianist Biff Hannon, and bassist Tom Warrington, with classic solo turns by jazz masters including saxophonists Ernie Watts, Don Menza, and Dan Higgins, trumpeters Carl Saunders and Gary Grant, pianist Mike Lang, guitarist Larry Koonse, and trombonist-brother Bill.

Reichenbach has put together a rich arrangement of jazz favorites. While he stays true to such songs as Sinatra’s signature “Come Dance With Me, ” there is no denying that Reichenbach leaves his own impressive mark--a voice that is acknowledgeable and distinctive. With interpretations ranging from warm ebullience to chilled disappointment, this compilation takes listeners on a captivating journey.
