Spoken Word for Peace

Famous writer Ishmael Reed, one of the most original and controversial African American literary figures and a group led by jazz violinist Billy Bang, will blend their talents in a collaboration of spoken word and jazz for peace Saturday, February 25 at the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture, NYC.

Reed will read his own works and the peace poetry of Japanese Buddhist philosopher Daisaku Ikeda in what promises to be a powerful presentation. As Reed says, “When the politicians and the intellectual or academic leaders fail, then the poets have to step in.”

The Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture is a national research library devoted to collecting, preserving and providing access to resources documenting the history and experiences of peoples of African descent throughout the world.
