Headway Festival 2006 in Netherlands

This year's edition of Headway Festival will take place on April 1st in P60, Amstelveen, Netherlands. The organization will bring you a unique alternative edition: a largely instrumental line-up. Guitar heroes, bass monsters, drummin' beasts and other virtuosi will let their instruments do the talking for you in a fabulous Special Shred-a-licious Edition . The festival will be enclosed between two coupled progconcerts of After Forever and Vanden Plas.

The line-up for the actual festivalday will be embellished with big names:
JONAS HELLBORG (SWE)
MATTIAS IA EKLUNDH (SWE)
JOEL HOEKSTRA (USA)
MARCEL COENEN (NET)
ROB VAN DER LOO (NET)
7FOR4 (GER), with Wolfgang Zenk (ex-Sieges Even)
PLUG-IN (FRA), with Fanalo and Elmobo (Ron Thal / Bumblefoot)
DARK HARVEST (ICE)

The concluding act is an exceptional trio surrounding unrivalled bassplayer Jonas Hellborg and his guitar playing fellow-Swede Mattias Ia Eklundh (Freak Kitchen, Freak Guitar). Hellborg played with the great of the earth and Steve Vai recently called Eklundh the best guitar plater walking the planet. Both gentlemen merge rock, jazz, fusion, world music, funk, punk and metal to a both virtuosic and visual show with due humor. The trio is in good shape thanks to their recent Asiatic tour, and will leave for some additional South American shows after the festival.

American Joel Hoekstra recently released his second album 'The Moon is Falling', again with Virgil Donati (Planet X, Steve Vai) and Ric Fierabracci (Andy Summers, Chick Corea) at his side. Influenced by rock, jazz, funk and classical music, this “sonic inventor” produces the most ridicule and unthinkable sounds with his guitar.

We all know Marcel Coenen from Lemur Voice, Sun Caged and the Satriani-coverband Time Machine. Marcel recently launched his new solo album called 'Color Journey'. At this record he is sided by artists like Mike Andersson (Cloudscape), Colleen Gray (Persephone's Dream), Paul Villarreal (Sun Caged), Uros Raskovski and Bob Katsionis (Firewind, Imaginary). This conceptalbum and other material will be brought to life by some of these musicians.

Rob van der Loo released the much-appraised solo-album 'Characters' under the pseudonym Freak Neil Inc. This album too encompasses an impressive list of contributors: Irene Jansen (Karma, Ayreon), Andr Vuurboom (Sphere of Souls), Arjen 'Ayreon' Lucassen, Steve DiGiorgio (Death, Testament e.a.), Sean Malone (Cynic, Gordian Knot), Chris Godin (Gn, Metal Kartoon), James Murphy (Death, Obituary, Testament) and the above-mentioned Marcel Coenen and Joost van den Broek (After Forever, Ayreon).

The crowd will be loosened up by the boiling Icelandic hero's of Dark Harvest, the technical “Soliditt” of German 7FOR4 (with Wolfgang Zenk, ex-Sieges Even), and the French frivolity of PLUG-IN (with Fanalo and Elmobo, from the permanent supporting band of Ron Thal / Bumblefoot)
