Canadian Jazz Pianist Michelle Gregoire Kicks Off 11 City Tour

byCindy McLeod

Jazz pianist, composer Michelle Grégoire starts her 11 city Canadian tour tonight in Calgary at the Western Canada High School Amphitheatre. The tour continues February through to February 18th, with appearances in Victoria, Vancouver, Edmonton, Saskatoon, Toronto, Antigonish, Halifax, Charlottetown, Ottawa and Montréal.

The Winnipeg-based pianist and composer embarks on her first Canadian tour with an all-star quintet featuring some of Canada's finest in jazz, saxophonist Kirk MacDonald, trumpeter Kevin Turcotte, bassist Jim Vivian, and drummer Ted Warren.

Gregoire hits the road to promote her debut CD ‘Reaching’, which features the dynamic quintet. The recording was produced after the artist won the Project COOL 2004 jazz competition, and has been widely praised for the sophisticated elegance of Grégoire's compositions.

Michelle's big band compositions have received extensive airplay, and have been performed and recorded by many ensembles, most recently by the Banff Jazz Orchestra during the Hugh Fraser Jazz Orchestra Residency, and the Winnipeg Jazz Orchestra, who recently released a recording of her large scale work on their self-titled CD. Her quintet was recorded by "Radio-Canada" for national broadcast on the "Silence on Jazz" program. For more information visit:http://homepage.mac.com/michgreg/Menu8.html
