40TH MIDEM: AN IMPRESSIVE LINE-UP FOR JAZZ

For its 40th edition MIDEM - the World’s Music Market – presents a comprehensive programme of concerts and conferences that highlight classical music and jazz. Discovering new talent will once again be at the heart of the event and a total of 28 ensembles, bands and soloists have been scheduled and 200 artists will be performing live throughout a series of 19 classical and jazz concerts. In addition, nine conferences will focus on the classic music and jazz sectors.

Festival of Independent Labels
23, 24 and 25 January will mark the fourth edition of the Festival of Independent Labels which is organised by MIDEM and Sacem in association with FCM and the French Music Export Office. A series of 6 one hour concerts will showcase a selection of new recording artists from six international record labels. Four independent international classical music labels will unveil their protégés in the Auditorium A, Palais des Festivals (Delphine Lizé presented by Intrada, Nemanja Radulovic presented by Ambroisie-Naïve and Transart Live, Quatuor Ysaÿe presented by Ysaÿe Records and Miki Škuta presented by Hevhetia). Two Jazz record labels will also be presented (LaBorie and Passavant) during the MIDEM IJFO Jazz Club which takes place at the Majestic Hotel.

MIDEM and the International Jazz Festivals Organisation
22, 23 and 24 January MIDEM and IJFO will host three evening events. The first is dedicated to the prestigious Spanish Vitoria Jazz Festival, which celebrates its 30th anniversary and will offer a unique cocktail of Basque jazz featuring Tomás San Miguel & Txalaparta and Iñaki Salvador Nonet. The next event, organised in association with Molde Jazz Festival will introduce the young IJFO jazz artist, Kjetil Møster. And finally, the last event will acknowledge three groups from the North Sea Jazz Festival: Pitch Pine Project, Amina Figarova Septet and Tineke Postma (saxophone).

International Jazz Revelation of the Year – MIDEM Jazz Special Prize
25 January at 9.30 p.m.: for the first time MIDEM will host the International Jazz Revelation of the Year organised in association with Les Victoires du Jazz, Jazz à Vienne Festival and IJFO. Three young talented musicians will be unveiled: saxophonists Tineke Postma, Kjetil Møster and pianist Matthew Bourne. The winner will be awarded the International Revelation of the Year and receive the MIDEM Special Prize. Singer Mina Agossi (ADAMI 2005) will also perform during this concert.

MIDEM Jazz Club
A live Jazz Club will kick-off each night from 7.00 p.m. at the Majestic Hotel, and will host two special events under the Festival of Independent Labels banner featuring Israeli pianist Yaron Herman (LaBorie label) and the Vincent Bidal Trio (Passavant). Finally two other Jazz Clubs will give carte blanche to Molly Johnson and the Esperanza Spalding Trio.

IMZ Screenings
More than 300 new classical, jazz, world and traditional music programmes will be presented to buyers from more than 150 TV channels, producers and distributors from 19 different countries under IMZ (International Music & Media Centre)
