He is the drummer of choice for an incredible array of artists - from the masters of the music to the hottest young players of today - and is equally in demand as a clinician and educator. Nash is presently a member of the jazz studies faculty at The Juilliard School in New York City. The extraordinary pianist and composer Renee Rosnes clearly enjoys the challenge and freedom of playing jazz in numerous formats. Her eight previous Blue Note recordings featured her, brilliantly, in smaller ensembles. Now, on her ninth Blue Note release, Renee Rosnes and the Danish Radio Big Band, Rosnes mines the experience gained during her impressive tenures with both the Carnegie Hall Jazz Band and The Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis. Renee Rosnes and the Danish Radio Big Band puts her in the spotlight with the revered Copenhagen ensemble, and reveals her capacity to shine within a jazz orchestra context. Renee is also a founding member of the San Francisco Jazz Collective, an all-star resident and touring octet led by artistic director Joshua Redman. Drawn from the top ranks of today's jazz artists, the band includes master vibraphonist Bobby Hutcherson, trumpeter Nicholas Payton, and the young altoist Miguel Zenon on alto saxophone. Steve Nelson developed in the 1990s into one of the most promising of the vibraphonists around, influenced by Milt Jackson but gradually developing his own sound. After gigging with Grant Green in the early '70s, Nelson picked up important experience playing with Kenny Barron, James Spaulding, Bobby Watson, and David "Fathead" Newman, and has played in a countless number of settings beginning in the '90s. Nelson has recorded as a leader for Criss Cross, Red, Sunnyside, and TCB. First call bassist Peter Washington first moved to New York in 1986 after the great Art Blakey invited the Los Angeles native to join his band. Following two years with the university of Blakey Washington became one of the busiest and most sought-after musicians around, playing with the likes of Bill Charlap, Brian Lynch, Bobby Hutcherson, Harold Land, Tom Harrell, Benny Green, Mulgrew Miller, Dizzy Gillespie, Johnny Griffin, Benny Golson, Tommy Flanagan, Hank Jones and many many others, to numerous to list here. (This is likely the last recording for this trio, as Vignola has departed the trio.) While performing a number of tunes closely associated with Grappelli, O’Connor’s albums and live performances extend the repertoire with O’Connor and Burr’s original compositions.
