Galt Macdermot & The New Pulse Jazz Band at the St.George Theatre

Galt MacDermot, Grammy and Tony Award-winning composer of HAIR: The American Tribal Love-Rock Musical, and the New Pulse Jazz Band will headline at the St. George Theatre’s (Staten Island, NY) 76th Anniversary celebration and Black-tie Gala, Saturday evening, December 3rd, 7:00 PM.
MacDermot and the New Pulse Jazz Band will perform The City Suite, to be released on Kilmarnock Records in the spring, and excerpts from a new composition, The Tinderbox, an adaptation of a Hans Christian Anderson fairy tale with book and lyrics by Matty Selman.

To the delight of both jazz and funk aficionados, Galt MacDermot will be accompanied by drummer Bernard Purdie (Aretha Franklin, Sam and Dave, Steely Dan), bassist Wilbur Bascomb (Jeff Beck), saxophonists Allen Won and Patience Higgins, trumpeter John Frosk, and trombonist Vince MacDermot, who make up the New Pulse Jazz Band.

Galt MacDermot has been playing with the New Pulse band for 26 years and there is an unmistakable comfort level between the musicians as they explore rhythmic and melodic subtleties. In addition to the new music, MacDermot, the New Pulse Jazz Band and a number of Broadway singers will perform a medley of songs from HAIR, proving that “peace, love, freedom and happiness” never go out of style.

Academy Award winner Faye Dunaway will be on hand to present three St. George Theatre "Tony Awards" to individuals who have been dear to the theatre's heart and instrumental in the re-development of the theatre as a cultural and performing arts center. Also on the bill, Danny Rodriguez, "America's Singing Cop.”
