Wave Hill Concert Series

Wave Hill Concerts, beginning Sunday, October 30 at 2pm, presents a diverse program celebrating the seasons’ textures and transitions, so apparent in Wave Hill’s exquisite gardens and Hudson River vistas. Classical compositions, jazz, vintage pop and arrangements that refuse boundaries herald the fall, winter and spring seasons in Armor Hall, with its intimate ambiance, fine acoustics and garden views. The series features Vishnu Wood and Joel L. Martin, Papo Vazquez Pirates Troubadours, Ollabelle, Daedalus String Quartet, Clare & The Reasons, and the ENSO String Quartet.

October 30 Vishnu Wood and Joel L. Martin Transcending cultural boundaries with their music, world-class musicians Wood and Martin introduce jazz riffs to well-loved classical compositions, creating Jazzical. The duo also explores blues-oriented music from around the world in an eclectic jazz program.

November 20 Papo Vázquez Pirates Troubadours Bronxville resident and world-renowned musician Papo Vázquez is joined by his band of Pirates for an afternoon of Afro-Caribbean Jazz. Performing on a variety of wind, brass, reeds and percussion instruments, the ensemble’s extensive repertoire celebrates the immense range of autumn colors at Wave Hill.

December 4 Ollabelle Earning praise on National Public Radio, this ensemble unites six accomplished musicians in the celebration of American rural roots music. Performing songs that blend bluegrass, gospel, jazz and country traditions, this lively group has gained popularity speaking through its modern musical sensibility to the heart and soul of the rural American experience.

January 22 Daedalus Quartet Grand Prize Winners of the 2001 Banff International String Quartet Competition display their virtuosity in Dvořák’s “American” quartet, inspired by an encounter with traditional Native American music during the composer’s summers spent in Spillville, Iowa. Works by Mozart and Benjamin Britten complete the program. February 12 Clare & The Reasons Creating a warm and intimate afternoon performance amidst February’s cold temperatures, singer-songwriter Clare Muldaur-Manchon and her four talented band members gracefully perform jazzy, vintage pop songs. A selection of original songs from her album Sweetheart which has been called ‘a confection…that mixes sweetness and tartness in just the right measure to create an aural treat for the listener's ear, ’ warm-up Armor Hall to temperatures found only in our Conservatory this time of year.

March 12 Ensō String Quartet Heralded for their energy and outstanding musicianship, this internationally acclaimed quartet has won top prizes at the Concert Artists Guild International Competition and numerous American chamber music competitions. This rising, young, international ensemble plays an expressive repertoire that conjures a textured and colorful landscape with a program featuring Puccini’s Chrysanthemum and Joan Tower’s Night Fields.
