Jazz Legend Jon Hendricks at Flushing Town Hall

Friday, October 21, 2005 at 8 p.m. Headliner Concerts ”a night of elegance with Jon Hendricks” Jazz history comes to Queens, as 84 year-old jazz legend Jon Hendricks, known throughout the world as the “Poet Laureate of Jazz, ” appears for the first time ever on the Flushing Town Hall stage on Friday, October 21st, at 8:00 PM. Hendricks will perform in the elegant and unforgettable musical style called “Vocalise, ” which he invented nearly a half-century ago.

Jon Hendricks, the only artist that Thelonious Monk and Duke Ellington allowed to lyricize their music, was the founder and creator of Lambert, Hendricks and Ross - an iconic jazz ensemble which enjoyed a five-year hold on the title “Number One Vocal Group in the World” from Melody Maker and Down Beat magazines in the 1960's, and whose work has strongly influenced generations of jazz performers since.

Friday, November 4, 2005, 8 p.m. Jazz Live! Intimate Jazz ”EDDIE ALLEN QUINTET” Master trumpeter Eddie Allen and his quintet, in an evening ranging from classics to be-bop. The Intimate Jazz concerts offer superb jazz at affordable prices every first Friday of the month in an informal cafe environment at the Flushing Town Hall Gallery.

Saturday, November 5, 2005, 1 p.m. QUEENS JAZZ TRAIL TOUR. Hop aboard the Flushing Town Hall Trolley for a fascinating journey through neighborhoods where Louis Armstrong, Dizzy Gillespie, Count Basie, Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald and John Coltrane lived. Includes a guided visit to the newly restored Louis Armstrong House and Museum.
