John La Barbera's Latest CD 'Fantazm'

Grammy® nominated composer/arranger, bandleader John La Barbera premiers his latest jazz Big Band CD, Fantazm (Jazz Compass JC1011).

Fantazm, John La Barbera's follow-up to his 2004 Grammy nominated On The Wild Side CD, is a collection of standards and originals inspired by something Duke Ellington once said: “...a little thing that the theme is taken from... the kind of a dream that you have about that kind of a girl... it's called Fantazm.” Featuring brothers Pat La Barbera on saxes, and Joe La Barbera on drums, and Clay Jenkins on trumpet, tracks include the Duke Ellington rarity “Fantazm” in his jungle jazz style; Woody Shaw's “Moontrane;” David Raksin's “Apache” love theme: “My Love & I;” Mister Mr.'s “Kyrie, ” and 4 originals by La Barbera and his brother Pat.

La Barbera, who is best known for his two decade collaboration with legendary drummer Buddy Rich, has also contributed to the band libraries of Count Basie, Woody Herman, Bill Watrous, Dizzy Gillespie, Sammy Davis Jr., Mel Torme', Chaka Khan and Harry James. He’s received Gold & Platinum awards for his production and arranging for the Glenn Miller Orchestra’s In The Christmas Mood and is a two time recipient of the National Endowment for the Arts award for jazz composition.

Fantazm, on the JazzCompass label is available in stores nationally and on the web. You can find more information about this CD and his Grammy® nominated On The Wild Side CD at La Barbera's website.
