NYU's Master Class Series Features Phil Woods

New York University's Jazz Master Class Series will feature jazz saxophone legend Phil Woods on Sun., Oct. 9, . at the Center for Jewish History. The program is part of NYU's Jazz Studies Program in the Steinhardt School of Education's Department of Music and Performing Arts Professions.

Developed eight years ago by David Schroeder, director of NYU Jazz Studies in the Steinhardt School, the Jazz Master Class Series nurtures relationships between aspiring jazz performers in Steinhardt and significant jazz artists. The program consists of artist performances and interviews; NYU Jazz Studies master student performances with critiques by the artists are followed by a jam session.

This program will be videotaped live as part of an on going DVD series. Past master classes have included Hank Jones, Cecil Taylor, Clark Terry, Jimmy and Percy Heath, and Barry Harris.

This series is made possible through the generous support from the Center for Jewish History, Artist's House Foundation, and the NYU Department of Music and Performing Arts Professions at Steinhardt.
