Pat Metheny Group performs in Ottawa - July 9th

The Ottawa International Jazz Festival, in association with the National Arts Centre, is pleased to present the Pat Metheny Group at the NAC Southam Hall on July 9th, 2005 at 8:00 p.m. as a featured concert in the festival’s 25th Anniversary Concert Series.

Founded by Metheny in 1977, the Pat Metheny Group has released 12 studio albums and has travelled the world, playing at concerts, festivals and clubs in more than 40 countries becoming one of the most popular touring acts of any kind anywhere. Each new record and tour is awaited with eager speculation and anticipation as this is a band with constant imagination and no-holds-barred creativity. It is the only group in history to win seven consecutive Grammy awards for seven consecutive releases.

Over the course of more than 25 years as a recording artist, guitarist Metheny has released album after album, each one brilliantly documenting another aspect of his unique and nearly uncategorizable musical journey. He has performed with artists as diverse as Steve Reich to Ornette Coleman to Herbie Hancock to Jim Hall to Milton Nascimento to David Bowie.

The group’s recently released studio album, The Way Up, features a single 68 minute long composition by Metheny and his long time collaborator, Lyle Mays, that draws from the cumulative lessons learned throughout their nearly 30 years together as a band to deliver a record of unprecedented structural depth and boundless imagination.

Mays has co-written much of the consistently engaging music for the multi-Grammy-winning group's albums. Together with Metheny and Mays, the PMG also consists of Steve Rodby on bass, trumpet player Cuong Vu, Gregoire Maret on harmonica, guitarist Nando Lauria and drummer Antonio Sanchez.

The Anniversary Concert Series is a unique celebration of the festival’s 25th anniversary. The series began with five featured artists performing during the summer festival, and will continue throughout the year with ten additional concerts
