New Berklee Press Jazz Expression DVD

Internationally respected saxophonist, composer, arranger, clinician, and adjudicator Larry Monroe has just released Jazz Expression: A Toolbox for Improvisation. This new instructional DVD helps musicians develop their own styles as they work with the building blocks of expression and articulation, and craft their own musical interpretations of songs.

As a student, ensemble chair, ear training Chair, Dean of Performance division, and current Vice President of International Studies, Monroe has been involved in Berklee College of Music’s unique musical educational program for over 40 years. As a prominent musician, Monroe’s views on expression are well-known throughout the community. Noting the tendency of young players to concentrate solely on their craft, and the lack of emphasis placed on expressive qualities, Jazz Expression: A Toolbox for Improvisation aims to give students the devices needed to develop their expressive abilities.

Jazz Expression: A Toolbox for Improvisation enables students to build upon their musical vocabulary to bring fullness of their musical ideas into the jazz idiom. Featured lessons, which can be applied to various instruments, include:

· Vibrato
· Articulation
· Dynamics
· Effects
· Pitch
