The Darkness and The Light - Arthur Dobrucki

Simi Valley composer-pianist Arthur Dobrucki has released a new recording of original solo piano works on the Azure Hills Music label titled The Darkness and The Light.

Arthur is a classically trained pianist who trained in his youth under Spanish pianist Mariblanca de Pujadas. As a composer, he is however self-taught, following in the footsteps of the classical composers he has studied while integrating contemporary influences and improvisation within his works.

Arthur Dobrucki has been active in the Southern California musical community for over 20 years. Starting to work professionally at the age of 16 as pianist for On Stage Studios in Simi Valley, he has since played for many local Southern California groups including the Magnificent Moorpark Melodrama and Vaudeville Company, San Fernando Valley Youth Ballet, and Moorpark College Opera workshops. Mr. Dobrucki has given classical solo piano performances and performed classical music with Southern California ensembles, chamber groups and soloists. In the 1980s, Arthur manned keyboard duties for five years with the Simi Valley based rock band, Dorian which was a local fixture on the Los Angeles club scene. In 1996, he co-founded the Simi Valley based Center Stage Kids musical theater performing group with Eric Cohen, and continues to serve on its Board of Directors today. A supporter of the arts, he has also been a past member of the Simi Valley Cultural Arts Center board. He is currently resident pianist and organist at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Simi Valley, California.

The new recording, The Darkness and The Light, contains 16 original works. Many of the works are written compositions and follow in the tradition of classical solo piano. Several other tracks, including the Windows, Ever After, and Darkness, are free improvisations that evoke the influence of Keith Jarrett and were fully realized during the moments they were recorded.
