Jazz Legends Fred Hersch and Kurt Elling in a Rare Concert Performance

Jazz legends Fred Hersch and Kurt Elling first came together at the Jazz Standard in New York City last December in a sold-out, one-night engagement. Take this opportunity to hear them once again redefine the art of the duo, at Maplewood’s Burgdorff Cultural Center, this Saturday, October 9, at 8PM.

Both of these extraordinary musicians have multiple Grammy Award nominations, and have received universal acclaim by critics and audiences alike. Kurt Elling combines vocalese with the spoken word, scatting and an appreciation of the classic jazz songbook to re-energize the art of Jazz singing for a new generation. All About Jazz said this of an Elling performance: “he burst in, knocked everyone out, brushed off his hands, and moved on. Mission accomplished.” Fred Hersch has been described by the New York Times as “a master who plays it his way.” Hersch recently won a Guggenheim Music Fellowship for composition, and similar to Elling boasts an impressive worldwide touring schedule.
