A Jazzy Valentine with AC Lincoln, Marion Cowings, Kim Kalesti Enjoy a Valentine’s night out on Friday, February 14 at Flushing Town Hall, where renowned duo Marion Cowings and Kim Kalesti will perform romantic melodies and timeless jazz standards in A Jazzy Valentine concert. Marion Cowings, celebrated for his velvety baritone and mastery of scat singing, has graced such prestigious stages as The Kennedy Center, Village Vanguard, Blue Note Jazz Club, and Lincoln Center and has captivated audiences worldwide with his blend of sophistication, emotion, and storytelling. A native New Yorker and accomplished at a young age, Cowings performed as a soloist with the New York Philharmonic under Leonard Bernstein while still in high school. Joining him on stage, his longtime collaborator Kim Kalesti is an extraordinary vocalist with a dynamic range and presence. Kalesti’s jazz career took off in the vibrant, 1980s-New York jazz scene, during which time she collaborated with legends like Dizzy Gillespie and Clark Terry. Together, Cowings and Kalesti have recorded multiple albums, recorded with jazz greats like Kenny Barron and Eddie Gomez, and performed extensively across the decades. They have created an unparalleled synergy in their musical interpretations. Their partnership extends beyond the stage, both as co-founders of the Vocal Jazz Department at New York University, where they have nurtured a new generation of jazz artists, and as parents. Their son, AC Lincoln, an accomplished jazz singer and rhythm tap dancer (or, “hoofer”), will make a special appearance during their set. Lincoln shares the inherited talents of his family with his sister, the widely acclaimed singer and songwriter, Emily King. In addition to writing, producing and arranging his own music, Lincoln has production credit on King’s song “Already There” from her album The Switch and writing credit on her Grammy-nominated album Special Occasion for her single “Medal.” Lincoln has has shared the stage with tap dance greats including Jimmy Slyde, Buster Brown, Chuck Green, and Savion Glover and has entertained audiences across the globe, performing with his all-star jazz band, as well as with celebrated artists Nate Smith, The Hot Sardines, Mercedes Ellington, Brian Newman and Winard Harper. He is currently headlining premier clubs and venues throughout New York City and abroad, including The Jazz Club at Aman, The Django, Minton’s Playhouse, Birdland Jazz Club, Fasano Baretto, Blue Note Tokyo and The Roundhouse London. "We are thrilled to welcome Marion Cowings and Kim Kalesti for this special Valentine's Day duet concert and delighted by their son’s guest appearance. It promises to be a beautiful occasion for romantic couples, dear friends, and lovers of jazz alike to enjoy a memorable, intimate evening of live music, " says Flushing Town Hall’s Executive & Artistic Director Ellen Kodadek. “For those in the know, Flushing Town Hall is a hidden gem for great jazz if you want to see exciting performers, ” says Flushing Town Hall’s Jazz Producer Clyde Bullard. “In recent years, we’ve presented NEA Jazz Masters like Reggie Workman, Jimmy Ownens, and Paquito D’Rivera, as well as some of today’s biggest names and emerging stars like Alicia Olatuja, Gustavo Casenave, and Bill Charlap. You don’t want to miss the talented Marion Cowings and Kim Kalesti.” |
