Jumaane Smith, Virtuoso Trumpet Player and Michael Bublé Band-member, Launches Solo Album in Europe

aane Smith is quite simply an outstanding talent. With his
latest album as a leader, Come On Home, he has made a
bold statement of intent and the music world is at his feet.
With his enormous vocal personality and his gifted artistry
for playing the Trumpet audiences all across Europe have a
lot to look forward to.
Jazz trumpeter, vocalist, and composer Jumaane Smith has
performed on 5 GRAMMY winning records (selling more than
60 million copies), 2 Emmy-nominated TV performances, the
GRAMMY Awards with Stevie Wonder, in Steven Spielberg’s
"West Side Story, " and much more. He has spent the last 18
years touring and recording with Michael Bublé as lead
trumpeter and featured vocalist and has toured with his own
band to such world-class venues as Jazz At Lincoln Center,
Birdland Jazz Club, Vail Jazz Festival, Java Jazz Festival,
Loew’s Regency, North Star Festival, Joe's Pub, Rochester
International Jazz Festival, Catalina Island Jazz Festival, and
many more.
Smith has worked with musical legends such as Quincy Jones,
Herbie Hancock, Aretha Franklin, Christian McBride, Barbra
Streisand, Alicia Keys, Jon Batiste, Kamasi Washington, and
Theo Croker. As a full scholarship recipient at the Juilliard
School of Music’s Jazz Studies program, Wynton Marsalis
was Smith’s primary trumpet teacher.
Jumaane own experiences of overcoming adversity, early
trauma and his upbringing are expressed through therecord, the album serves as a cathartic expression of his
thoughts and emotions, offering listeners a passage to his
mind.
In an interview with WBGO88.3 Jumaane states: "The origins
of this new album are really my origins. It's really an
autobiographical album. I wrote the majority of the music.
We did three songs that are covers on this, but other than
that it's all original music. I really wanted to tell my story
through this piece." Come On Home was a process of self-
discovery, a form of self-reflection and a method of facing
past hardships while embracing the joy and refuge found in
Jumaane’s life and music. On the album, every note has
meaning, every tracks is equally poignant, passionant and
hopeful.
