Mark O'Leary Stefan Pasborg Jakob Riis Grønland Having performed with Stefan Pasborg and Jakob Riis in Copenhagen, we relocated to Karma Crew studio to record Grønland. We agreed, the vast expanse and tundra of this mystical land would be our muse, it was inexorable that we should move towards the refulgent light of Grønland and its peculiar bifurcation of Inuit and highly organic, compatible Danish mores. Peter Schmidt Mikkelsen, a former member of Sirius Patrol, who adorns the front cover, encapsulates the essence of the interior of this enchanting land, travelling incommunicado for weeks on end by canine, the only reliable for of transport in the interior of the country, by dawns early light as Peter returns home. From the Inuit to Erik the red to Hans Egede, Grønland has a compelling history. Stefan's bowed cymbals, to Jakob's moog inflected sonicsphere to Mark's arco guitar, subtle rhythmic infusions, lush drones, sonic textures all aggregating in the atmospheric crucible, one can allude to this magnum opus as Gesamtkunstwerk. To the bucolic charm of Nuuk, with its Scandinavian influenced architecture, and dissimulation colour schemes, a vibrant kaleidoscope that invigorates and captures the imagination and pathos of all who visit. The aurora which permeates the sky and providing a scintillating illumination and fulcrum for the tundra expanse, the chiaroscuro, redolent of an arctic eden, non pareil, in its plenitude.
