Chris Rogers Quintet Saturday, November 9, 7 to 10 pm DEER HEAD INN Jazz trumpeter/composer CHRIS ROGERS and his quintet - featuring Grammy winning saxophonist/composer TED NASH - will be appearing at the famous Deer Head Inn on Saturday November 9th, featuring highly swinging new originals from Chris' upcoming 2025 album "Echoes of Cydonia" along with a few favorites from Chris' critically acclaimed "Voyage Home" album (Art of Life Records, 2017) which posthumously featured the late great Michael Brecker. On board are longtime associates bassist Jay Anderson and drummer Steve Johns, and for the first time the great pianist Jon Ballantyne (filling in for Bruce Barth who plays on the new album). The historic Deer Head Inn has been a mainstay jazz venue for years for such luminaries as Phil Woods, Dave Liebman, Urbie Green, Bill Goodwin, and many others, and continues to be an artistic hub for jazz in the Poconos! It's just a short drive from NYC and has a relaxed rustic vibe and a great dinner menu! Since the early 1980's Chris Rogers has been a featured trumpet soloist with artists such as Gerry Mulligan, Mongo Santamaria, The Mingus Big Band, Buddy Rich, Hilton Ruiz, Bob Moses, Eddie Palmieri, Chaka Khan, Arturo O’Farrill, Toshiko Akiyoshi, Ray Barretto & New World Spirit, Mel Lewis & The Vanguard Jazz Orchestra, Frank Sinatra, Maria Schneider, Tom Harrell's Big Band, Blue Lou Marini, The Ted Nash Big Band, The Vincent Herring Quintet, and many more. Chris' debut album "Voyage Home" (on Art of Life Records) features the late, great Michael Brecker and received 4.5 stars from DOWNBEAT while being selected among their "Best Albums of 2017". Chris is the son of the late NYC trombonist Barry Rogers, best known for his groudbreaking recordings spanning over three decades with Salsa legend Eddie Palmieri; and his being a co-founding member of the seminal early 1970s jazz-rock-fusion band DREAMS with the Brecker Brothers and Billy Cobham. Growing up in New York City, Chris attended the "Famed" High School of Music & Art and was stylistically influenced and personally mentored by New York trumpet greats such as Randy Brecker, Lew Soloff, Mike Lawrence and Tom Harrell. He is also deeply versed in the schools of Miles Davis, Freddie Hubbard, Woody Shaw, Clark Terry and Clifford Brown. |
