Vana Gierig , called a “piano phenom” by Keyboard Magazine created his own unique sound as much through his composing as through his style of improvisation. At core is always his Piano Trio, from which he often expands to include Brazilian percussion, violin, cello, saxophone, and more. He toured with multi-Grammy winner Paquito D’Rivera who is also featured on Vana’s “Making Memories” CD (ENJA Records). Vana continuously tours the world with his group and as Musical Director to Ute Lemper, which includes exciting programs with renowned symphony orchestras. At Birdland, Vana will be introducing his new project “PIANISSIMO, ” which is an extremely dynamic program consisting of new compositions and arrangements.

One of his great recording projects was with Regina Carter (who he collaborated with for 9 years), “Paganini: After A Dream, ” for which he was Musical Director and Co-Producer with Ettore Stratta and Pat Philips. The album went on to be #1 on the Billboard charts and to be a sold-out concert at Alice Tully Hall, also produced by Stratta Philips Productions.

As Composer/Arranger, Vana arranged some music for the 2023 hit series “Missing” on NBC/Universal. In 2004, he was also asked to compose music for the 5/6 season finale of the HBO hit series “Sex & The City.”

This multi talented pianist/composer wows the audiences with his virtuosic playing, charming personality and connection to his audiences. His accompanying musicians Matthew Parrish and Alvester Garnett are well-known talents in their own right.
