SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT: DC JazzFest Adds D-Nice to 2021 Lineup

The DC Jazz Festival (DCJF) today announced DJ D-Nice will host a special dance party to conclude the DC JazzFest at The Wharf on September 5, 2021. DCJF’s signature event, DC JazzFest at The Wharf will take place September 4-5, over Labor Day Weekend, as a hybrid of in-person and livestreamed performances in front of a global audience. Details about tickets for the 2021 DC JazzFest at The Wharf can found here.

D-Nice is the recipient of the prestigious Entertainer of The Year award, which he received on March 27, 2021 at the 52nd annual NAACP Image Awards. In a pandemic year nearly bereft of live performances for live audiences, D-Nice provided much-needed balm, crafting an amazing success story with his “Club Quarantine” party. He hosted a countless number of his wildly successful parties on Instagram Live. The Los Angeles Times said “D-Nice has emerged as perhaps the hottest name in pop culture” during the 2020 pandemic shutdown. Among the revelers who attended Club Quarantine sets were an incredible mix of pop culture icons, political A-listers, and sports stars, including Michelle Obama, Rihanna, Oprah Winfrey, Quincy Jones, Joe Biden, Alicia Keys, Jennifer Lopez, Magic Johnson, and Steph Curry.

This blockbuster DC JazzFest weekend will be hosted at The Wharf, DC’s premier waterfront neighborhood and destination. Located on a lovely stretch of the historic Potomac River, The Wharf is full of scintillating restaurants and clubs, vibrant retail, and first-class hotels and offices. The neighborhood’s monumental views and bustling riverside promenade are accessible by nearby Metro service, highway access, and water taxi service. The most recent DC JazzFest at The Wharf, in June 2019, hosted 150, 000 festival goers over its closing weekend.

“The DC JazzFest is one of the most vibrant festivals in the city and we have been so pleased to support it as a sponsor for more than fifteen years. We are thrilled to see it come back with the option to either join in person or via live-stream, ” said Kris Coratti Kelly, Chief Communications Officer at The Washington Post.

The largest jazz festival in the Nation’s Capital, the 17th Annual DC JazzFest will feature a robust lineup of performers – from local legends to NEA Jazz Masters – with concerts citywide. When crafting this year’s lineup, DCJF sought to feature the diversity that is so integral to the worldwide success and creativity of the genre. This year’s Festival experiences will include in-person and live stream performances, up-close-and-personal “Meet the Artist” conversations, and the DCJazzPrix international jazz band competition Finals live at Union Stage at The Wharf. Due to the ongoing pandemic, DCJF decided to postpone this year’s festival to September to ensure the safety for our devoted festivalgoers, world-class performers, and enthusiastic staff.

“We are absolutely thrilled to be back in action with a live DC JazzFest at The Wharf. This year’s lineup boasts a rich, broad canvas of what makes jazz music an international phenomenon, from established artists in the classic jazz tradition, to restless explorers, to emerging talents, to all-star tribute performances, and some of the DC Metro region’s finest.” (Willard Jenkins, Artistic Director)
