| Oxygen Games Launches Duels Online Fantasy Game Oxygen Games announces the release of Duels, a new multi-player online fantasy game that combines the best of collectible card games and the advancement and character development of massively multi-player role-playing games with the ease of access and community aspects of Web 2.0 applications. Duels is unique in that it's specifically designed to be played in 10-30 minute increments rather than in long, marathon sessions. The short-form format is ideal for casual and hardcore gamers alike, who may enjoy games such as World of Warcraft but are looking for new and challenging options for play in between longer gaming sessions and during free time. Duels was created by Andrew Busey, author of Secrets of the MUD Wizards ? one of the first books about Internet role-playing games ? and creator of web-based chat and one of the first instant messaging applications, iChat. An avid gamer himself, Mr. Busey has focused on making Duels simple enough to play for short periods of time and entertaining enough for the hardcore and casual gamer alike. MMORPGs, such as World of Warcraft and Everquest II, are often called "monogamous games" because they require significant time commitments. Duels was designed to provide both MMORPG enthusiasts and casual gamers a way to entertain and challenge themselves with a quick-fix of gaming, while still advancing their characters. "If 'World of Warcraft' is your full-time job, Duels is a great lunch break", said Andrew Busey, founder and CEO of Oxygen Games. "The game provides the challenging, ongoing experience gamers are looking for with the head-to-head play, collectibility, and trading capabilities of CCG games like Magic: The Gathering or Yug-i-oh. The best part is it can be played for short periods of time, such as when you're waiting for things to happen in World of Warcraft." A player vs. player fantasy role playing game, Duels challenges gamers to build powerful characters based on physical attributes, battle experience, special abilities and collectible items. Players aim for the ideal combination of the attributes, experience and equipment needed to beat other players in head-to-head combat. Because the Duels game is asynchronous in nature, it can be played when and where a user wants. Players can challenge and battle each other and results can be accessed at the players' convenience. With each duel, players gain rewards that enable their characters to advance in level, increase their physical and mental attributes, and win gold and tokens. Gold and tokens can be used to buy equipment, such as armor and weapons, or packs, which contain random loot from a broad set of possible items. Duels also allows players to trade and sell items to each other. Duels is free to play. Players also have the option to purchase select game items with money or join as VIP members, which provides additional benefits. write your comments about the article :: © 2007 Game News :: home page |
