KOEI reveals all-new PlayStation?3 titles

On September 16th 2005, KOEI held a "PlayStation 3 New Title Presentation" at the 2005 Tokyo Game Show. Over 100 press members and analysts were treated to the unveiling of two all-new PS3 titles from KOEI -- Fatal Inertia and Bladestorm. Fatal Inertia marks a radical departure for KOEI, which is known mostly for historical action and strategy games. Developed by the KOEI Canada development studio, it's an aerial combat racing game that uses physics as a core component to its gameplay.

The game is set in the mid-23rd century, where a new sport has emerged. It's an evolutionary mix of street racing, rally racing, and demolition derbies, where vibrant, futuristic vehicles battle and race in a variety of beautiful, natural environments.

The foundation of Fatal Inertia is its physics engine, which uses the power of the PS3 to create weapons and environments that are unlike anything seen before. The beautiful natural environments aren't just scenery -- they are there to be used in combat, and rock walls can quickly become avalanches to use against your opponents. You'll have unparalleled freedom, and with all the possibilities the physics-based engine has to offer, you'll never have the same play experience twice.

In this game, weapons are not something you use to directly damage an opponent, but are items used to create a variety of physics-based effects. A single weapon has a variety of uses, and you'll discover new ways to use them every time you play. The vehicles in Fatal Inertia are highly customizable, and with the large variety of designs and parts at your disposal, you can truly inject your personality into your ride.

The next game revealed was Bladestorm, an action game set during the 100 Years War. Produced by Omega Force, this title promises to present a whole new type of combat action. It's still too early to reveal anything more about Bladestorm, but you can expect new information in the coming months.

Other PlayStation 3 works on display included the trailer for Kou Shibusawa's Ni-Oh, as well as a PS3 tech demo featuring Guan Yu.

PlayStation 3 titles weren't the only thing presented at TGS. Dyansty Warriors 5 Special for Xbox?360 was on-hand in playable form, along with Dynasty Warriors?5 Xtreme Legends? and Samurai Warriors?: State of War for PSP (PlayStation?Portable).
