Ea Announces Up To $2.6 Million In Training For Its Game Makers In Montr?al - Emploi Qu?bec Makes Significant Contribution

Electronic Arts announced an investment of up to $2.6-million for a training program that will provide its growing workforce of game makers at EA Montr?al (EAM) with the technical and creative skills they need to stay on the cutting-edge as they develop the next-generation of interactive entertainment. Alain Tascan, Vice President and General Manager of EAM, was joined today by Michelle Courchesne, Quebec Minister of Employment and Social Solidarity, who announced that Emploi Qu?bec will contribute $660, 000 toward this initiative.

The curriculum for the modular training program is still in development but will feature courses in some of the following areas: performance technology, graphics, engineering as well as project and people management. The class offering will be accompanied by a lecture series which will include visits from creative leaders at EA as well as speakers from the film, music, comic book, computer animation and engineering industries. All regular full-time employees at EAM are eligible to participate in the program. The training is meant to provide EAM game makers with the creative inspiration and technical tools they need to grow their careers and embolden their contributions to their current projects.

Alain Tascan explained that electronic game players are sophisticated media consumers who seek entertainment experiences characterized by fun and exciting gameplay, high-definition graphics, emotionally believable characters and deep online experiences.

EA established its presence in Montr?al in 2003 by opening a new studio to create and develop new action/adventure videogames. EAM has drawn on the exceptional talents of young creative specialists from Montr?al and across Qu?bec ? programmers, high-end digital artists, 3D animators, lighting experts, modelers, writers, film directors, musicians and audio engineers ? to develop groundbreaking interactive entertainment. Today, EAM employs 100 highly skilled people at its newly-refurbished state-of-the-art studio in downtown Montr?al. Currently, the teams are working on SSX? on Tour for the PSP? (PlayStation? Portable) system, as well as another brand new original franchise which will be announced in the coming months. The studio is already ahead of schedule and is on track to add new franchises and teams with an average team size of 80 to 100 people.

EA?s Canadian headquarters are located in Burnaby, British-Columbia, where the company employs over 1, 600 game makers. It is the largest studio in the EA family. Globally, EA employs 6, 100 people.
