Boat & Fun Berlin 2016: New record set with over 550 boats

All the water sports activities and recreational fun that anyone could wish for! On Wednesday evening the Berlin boating exhibition will open with the Gala Night of the Boats. From Thursday to Sunday, over the four days of this event, more than 700 exhibitors from 15 countries will be exhibiting their products in ten halls. Dr. Christian Göke, CEO of Messe Berlin GmbH: "In recent years Boat & Fun Berlin has expanded its range of exhibits in all directions. With over 550 boats, this year's edition will display more brands and models than ever before, showcasing affordable dream craft in the heart of Europe's largest region for water sports activities." The boats on display will include everything from modern motorboats, spectacular yachts to stylish classic boats A Special Hall featuring houseboats and floating homes as well as a new Outdoor Hall with canoes and bikes will augment the displays. At Boat & Fun Berlin visitors can not only try out canoes and bikes, but stand-up paddling, wakeboarding, surfing, diving and fishing as well.

Three types of electromobility
How about towing an electric boat with an electric car and exploring places on land with an electric bike? Visitors to this year's Boat & Fun Berlin can find out about three different types of electric transport. Gliding silently through the water is no longer the sole domain of sailing boats and is now being made possible by low-noise, eco-friendly forms of propulsion. At Boat & Fun Berlin the E-Boat exhibition in Hall 2 will feature the latest in boats with electric motors and hybrid motors. However, because the boating exhibition is called Boat & Fun Berlin, 2016 will for the first time also witness other leisure themes besides boats such as electric cars and bikes. At Autotage Berlin models from 21 carmakers will go on display in Hall 1, including five who will be showing electric cars. These can be tested on the Berlin motorway stretch known as the 'Avus'. At this year's Boat & Fun Berlin bicycles, currently a major trend, will be one of the key themes. A test circuit will be available where visitors can try out the latest models. E-bikes especially are the latest thing and will be demonstrating maximum performance on a 10 % incline in Hall 26.

Winter water sports in Berlin
Visitors can experience more than just testing cars and bikes. A wide range of events at Boat & Fun Berlin will be offering them the chance to take part in, experience and try out water sports activities for themselves. The special events pool, which covers 1,000 square metres and features a cable system, will offer introductory wakeboarding courses. This is also where visitors can test their coordination and balancing skills with stand-up paddling and at SUP polo. A new feature this year is the 'Surf Days Wave', which offers an experience almost like surfing in Hawaii. Visitors can also try out diving in a container with built-in windows. In the pool they can test the handling qualities of kayaks and canoes, and in the Fly Casting Area they can practise fly tying and fly-fishing. Measuring 14 metres in length and holding 23, 000 litres of water, AQUADEMO is Europe's largest mobile aquarium and this year will be a special attraction for fishing enthusiasts. Professional anglers will be demonstrating, without hooks, how catfish, pike, carp and minnows react to bait.

New hall devoted to houseboats and floating homes
Houseboats are becoming increasingly popular even with those who have little interest in water sports. In Berlin, a European region full of rivers and lakes, the dream of living on the water is possible practically on one's doorstep. That is why, for the first time, Boat & Fun will feature an entire hall exhibiting rafts, houseboats and floating homes. At the Houseboat and Charter Boat Forum visitors can find out everything from experts about planning and building boats and looking for a berth. In Hall 6 Jürgen Strassburger, an expert on boat cruises, will have lots of practical tips and ideas for trips and holidays on a houseboat as well as individual advice for tours.

Three halls featuring motorboats and motor yachts
Three halls (Halls 2 to 4) will be devoted entirely to motorboats and motor yachts, including those debuting on the German, European and world stage. Hall 3 is where the major European makes are gathered, among them Bavaria, Jeanneau, Beneteau, Delphia and Galeon. Popular steel-hulled boats and those suited for longer trips are here too, including Linssen, Succes, Marco, Unruh, Brandsma and Keser. The upper end of the market is rounded off by Broom, Nimbus, Axopar, Committi and da Vinci. In the Motor Yacht section Boat & Fun Berlin will be setting the tone with the 'comeback of mid-range motorboats'. Boatbuilders are currently manufacturing new, affordable 30-foot motorboats suitable for rivers, lakes and coastal waters. Hall 4 is reserved for hydrofoils and features many different types: they include open-topped bowriders and wide-bodied hydrofoils made by Sea Ray, Sting Ray, Four Winns, Aqualine, St. Tropez, Regal, Saver, Mastercraft Olympia, Parker Drago, Bella, Bayliner, Quicksilver and Terhi, as well as small cruisers from Viking and Inter. 'Sloeps' are another new trend at the show, one that cannot be overlooked. They are open-decked boats which offer the perfect way to relax on the water. The Netherlands is strongly represented, with boats from Interboat, Maril, Menken, Alfastreet and Cooper. The Berlin and Brandenburg branches of the German Motor Yacht Association will have information for visitors on all kinds of water sports activities and the local region in Hall 2.

From day sailers to yachts with keels
Visitors to the jetty in Hall 25 can view the latest sailing boats and yachts as if they were in a harbour and gain an overview of the variety of designs and equipment featured by up to 35-foot boats from Dufour, Sunbeam and Balt. Yachts from Jeanneau and Bavaria will be on show on the respective companies' stands in Hall 3. The popular day sailer category will be on display on an adjacent raised platform. Among the highlights will be a Green Bente of the successful Bente24 team including Stephan Boden and Alexander Frolijk. Boats in all price categories specifically for lakes, rivers and coastal waters from Viko, Antila, Skippy and Haber will also be on show nearby. Anyone looking for a sailing club can choose from 17 clubs and three associations who have registered for the show: Deutscher Segler-Verband, Berliner Segler-Verband, the Trans-Ocean Club and Deutscher Hochseesportverband HANSA. A total of 28 organisations representing individual categories will be present. For those addicted to speed Boat & Fun Berlin will be showing catamarans from Topcat, X-Cat and Dragonfly as well as two hydrofoils: the iFLY will be appearing in Germany for the first time and the WAZSP will be making its world debut. A foil acts in a similar way to the wing of an aeroplane. Above a certain speed it gains sufficient lift to raise a boat's hull out of the water. This reduces the boat's drag in water and increases travel speed. Visitors can find out more about this topic as well as others from the fascinating Sailing Forum.

Other highlights at a glance
Traditional handicrafts are on display in the Classic Boat Hall (6.2). Occupying a display area of over 3,000 square metres lovers of classic craft are presenting a unique collection of classic sailing boats and motorboats.
