‘Young Creations Award: Upcycling’ now open to entries from all over Europe

Save resources, explore materials and develop design ideas: for the fifth time, the Heimtextil trade fair is calling on young creative personalities to upcycle and enter the 'Young Creations Award: Upcycling' competition. Students and graduates of design, interior architecture and related courses of study at European universities are invited to produce upcycling ideas, which will be judged on the occasion of the next Heimtextil in Frankfurt am Main from 10 to 13 January 2017. Master students and young master craftspeople in the field of interior decoration can also enter the competition, which has two categories, 'Upcycling Object' and 'Room Concept'. The deadline for online registration at www.heimtextil-award.com is 11 September 2016.

"Upcycling not only saves resources and money but is also chic and stands for sustainable design in tune with the times", says Heimtextil Director Sabine Scharrer." With the 'Young Creations Award: Upcycling', Heimtextil aims to encourage young designers and reveal the potential of this subject. A wide variety of implementation options have opened up in recent years, especially in the field of textile interior decoration and furnishing." As Competition Partner, the Award is supported by the German Interior Decoration and Furnishing Association (Zentralverband Raum und Ausstattung – ZVR). The Award carries prize money of more than € 7,000.

Unique designs premičred at Heimtextil
The 'Young Creations Award: Upcycling' competition illuminates the subjects of textiles, sustainability and design whereby particular emphasis is given to the textile side of the projects: at least 30 percent of the materials used must be textiles whereby the focus is on the use of selected, recycled materials and their high-grade processing. For the fair, participants are asked to prepare their unique designs for presentation on a scale of 1:1.

Expert jury to select the best projects
Selected entries will be shown at a special exhibition in Hall 4.2 during the fair. The jury award is given in two categories: on the one hand, an object, unique piece or prototype and, on the other hand, a complete room concept. The jury is made up of design and upcycling experts from the textile and furnishing sector. The awards will be presented at 16.30 hrs on 10 January 2017.
