| Curtain up on the new Christmasworld Decoration Stars The decoration sector has a great innovative potential – as shown by the 13 entries received for the 2nd Decoration Star Innovation Award of Christmasworld and 'Porzellan und Glas', the trade magazine for porcelain and glass published by 'bit-Verlag'. Three awards will be presented at the leading international trade fair for festive decorations on 30 January: Christmas Star (products for the Christmas festivities), Seasonal Star (products for seasonal decorations and gifts) and Promotion Star (advertising, sales promotions, PoS activities and campaigns). All entries will be on show in an exhibition at the Christmasworld Forum in the foyer of Hall 11.0 (north) from 30 January to 3 February 2015. Additionally, a bilingual brochure describing the innovative product ideas and offering supplementary order ideas for assortment compilation will also be available. "With the Decoration Star, we provide a special platform for this innovative sector and spotlight new sales-promotion ideas for the trade with the potential to become bestsellers", says Eva Olbrich, Christmasworld Director, Messe Frankfurt Exhibition GmbH. The aim of the award is not only to honour technical innovations, excellent design or environmental friendliness but also the emotional appeal to customers, which causes them to stop, look and buy. "We are very pleased with the result of the second edition of the competition because we not only have several returnees but also many new participants – over 50 percent more – a sign that Decoration Star is slowly but surely becoming established", says Siegfried Elsass, Publishing Manager, bit-Verlag. For manufacturers, this is a great opportunity to draw the attention of international visitors at Christmasworld to their entrepreneurship. The winners and nominees of the expert jury are: Category 1: Christmas Star Winner: Lumix Highlights – Mystic Green & Cosmic Blue by Krinner GmbH (Hall 11.0 C 28) "This elegant tree decoration is a genuine innovation – in terms of both the technological and design approaches – which has not been seen before in this form and thus makes it the clear winner in the Christmas Star Category", says Axel Witlake of Tischkultur Baxmann explaining the jury's decision. The Lumix Highlights by Krinner are ground acrylic-glass coins with lasered 3D holograms. The innovative Christmas decorations come in two versions: Lumix Highlights Cosmic Blue is suspended on a cord and combined with a modern metallic-look battery box that has the appearance of an additional ornament in the tree. The Mystic Green version – an elegant tree decoration with a metallic finish – is suspended from a branch quickly and easily with a hook. Also nominated: 'Bambi' blanket by pad home design concept GmbH (Hall 9.0 E 41). Because: "Textiles are becoming more and more important for our sector in the glass, porcelain and ceramic retail trade. Thanks to the special touch and the stylish choice of colours, customers are delighted to be given one as a gift or to buy one as a personal reward", says Carl Reckers, business consultant and honorary president of the German Glass, Porcelain and Ceramic Association (Bundesverband für den gedeckten Tisch, Hausrat und Wohnkultur – GPK). The blanket is Oeko Tex certified and made in Germany. Consisting of 60 percent cotton and 40 percent acrylic fibres, it is idea for snuggling on the couch. The colourful baby deer hopping around contribute to a cheerful Christmas atmosphere. The Christmas Enchantment Winter Landscape Plate by räder Wohnzubehör, part of Bastei Lübbe AG (Hall 9.1 D 21), also received many jury votes. "The design fits perfectly in this modern age. Not ostentatious but innovative. Moreover, it is a finished product that does not have to be fitted together and it has an immediate impact – with or without anything in it", says Axel Witlake. Unglazed on the outside, glazed inside and with real gold decoration, these fine porcelain plates have the potential to become genuine heirlooms for the family dinner at Christmas. Outside, the plate has a wintery typographical decoration; on a platform inside, a small village invites you to take a winter stroll. Category 2: Seasonal Star Winner: The Nutcracker by designimdorf Stefan Spitz GmbH & Co. KG (Hall 9.1 C 20). "It meets all the requirements for a 'men's toy'", says the jury. All you have to do is put a nut in, pull back the trip and let it go. The Nutcracker is made of high-grade solid oak, feels good in the hand, is decorative and (almost) indestructible. The jury has chosen this product for the award for its innovative yet simple design. It is a product that can be used the whole year round and not just at Christmas and a convincing reinterpretation of the classic nutcracker. Also nominated: The 'Snowfall' candle stick by Star Trading AB (Hall 11.0 C 70) was inspired by the first big snowflakes that fall like little works of art on trees and bushes. Using modern laser technology, ecological LED lighting and attractive patterns, award-winning designer Charlotte Falk has created a modern winter classic. The 'Butterfly Medaillon' series by Ambiente Europe B.V. (Hall 9.0 C 70) is an uncompromising realisation of an ornamental, almost nostalgic style. "It's tea or coffee time!" no matter what the season. The napkins are made using a special roller that produces an extremely precise printing result. The series consists of a variety of lunch and cocktail napkins, handkerchiefs, a napkin holder, a candle, a mug and a tray. Category 3: Promotion Star Winner: 'Pack & Give' by Koen Pack BV (Hall 8.0 C 71) The name says it all: pack it and give it! With Pack & Give, Koen Pack offers an all-in-one package with which customers can pack plants completely in accordance with their individual taste. For retailers, it is also possible to give a packaging line a personal touch, e.g., through the use of a logo or text. And there is also a variety of options with regard to the material. The 'Pack & Give' concept has consciously been given a neutral look to underscore the value of plants and trees. According to the jury, this makes it ideal for garden centres and DIY markets, which use the product to promote plant sales – an interesting innovation for the sector. "Garden centres could also present suggestions for attractive packing and thus position themselves as expert service partners", says business consultant Reckers. Also nominated: Decoration ribbons with photo-realistic printing by Sopp Industrie GmbH (Hall 8.0 C 80). They are not only collection / catalogue articles for decorators, florists and the stationery trade but also – and in particular – highly flexible promotional articles. Multi-colour logos can easily be printed on the ribbons, as can pictures or photos. According to the jury, the ribbons are innovative because they are biodegradable and could lead to a reduction in the mass use of curl ribbons. On the other hand, they offer an infinite variety of creative possibilities whereby the personalisation option is especially interesting. "A must-have for every business wanting to spotlight quality", says jury member Witlake. The winter decoration of the Concept Mall Bikini Berlin by Barthelmess Display & Decoration GmbH (Hall 11.0 C 49) is stunning and emotional. “It is an excellent of example of how to attract customers and become the focus of attention”, says Carl Reckers. Almost 100, 000 LEDs and more than 17, 000 baubles were used. The highlights include an eight-metre tree indoors and a seven-metre tree outdoors, as well as white animals, silver seamless baubles based on the dot-elements of the Bikini Berlin logo, which were specially designed and made for the decoration. The 3D façade projection also reflected the main theme of ‘dots’. The blend of music, lighting and animation technology was switched on daily four times an hour, from 17.00 to 22.00 hrs, until 31 December. The winners receive the Decoration Star Award and a certificate. The nominees also receive a certificate. The next Christmasworld in Frankfurt: 29 January to 2 February 2016.
