German Pavilion Expo Milan 2015: clothing production tender launched

The tender for the production of the clothing for the personnel of the German Pavilion Expo Milan 2015 has been launched. The contract includes the production and supply of the clothing as well as the production and supply of belt bags.

"The personnel clothing unites two central concepts of the German Pavilion: on the one hand, we place great importance on ecological and social aspects in the choice of materials and in production. On the other hand, the designs come from our new creative talent in Germany. Germany's presentation, therefore, makes a creative and innovative contribution also in the clothing, " said Dietmar Schmitz, Commissioner General of the German Pavilion.

Students of ESMOD Berlin, International University of Art for Fashion, have provided the designs. The collection for the hosts and hostesses as well as for the management of the German Pavilion was presented at the Salon Show in the Greenshowroom in the Adlon Kempinski Hotel. With regard to the choice of materials and production of the Pavilion clothing, sustainability was a key focus of the designs.

Ecological and social aspects are, therefore, also the focus of the tender for the production. A catalogue of requirements includes, for example, the prevention of toxic substances and the adherence to ILO conventions with view to employment law. The requirements apply to the complete process from the choice of raw materials and final production to use and end waste disposal.

The main objective in the design of the German Pavilion is to create a "homogenous pavilion". In this concept, each element from the catering and the choice of materials in the construction or personnel clothing to the cultural programme "Fields of Cultures" underlines the message of the German Pavilion. The close interrelationship of the architecture and the exhibition and the many opportunities to become actively involved make a visit to the Pavilion a holistic experience. "The clothing is a special part of the overall concept of the German Pavilion's "Fields of Ideas". It is filled with life in the truest sense of the word, " said Schmitz.
