IFA 2014: 90 years of innovations

IFA has been setting the standard for 90 years and become the world's leading trade show for consumer and home electronics. Leading international manufacturers display the latest trends and their products to global audiences at IFA in Berlin. In the past innumerable product debuts have played a major role in the history of IFA. Every year this unique blend of innovation, stars, entertainment and new products attracts retailers, industry, the media and the public.

Demand by exhibitors is consistently high, even at the 90th IFA. At IFA 2014, with the CityCube Berlin now available along with extra space, the organisers are able to satisfy the huge exhibitor demand. At 149.500 m², the overall display area at the world's leading trade show for consumer electronics and home appliances has grown by two per cent. It means that IFA is booked up for the fifth year in succession. Besides the halls, additional areas on the outdoor display site as well as temporary halls are being used to accommodate the 1.538 exhibitors (+3%). Both regular exhibitors and newcomers have contributed to this growth in floor space.

At the last event orders were placed totalling over four billion euros, making IFA the leading event for the industry and retailers in the run-up to Christmas, the most important trading period for stockists.

Market developments
Developments in the consumer electronics and home appliances markets, the markets represented at IFA, have varied. Worldwide, a slight decline (-3 %) is expected in CE sales (737 billion euros), which remain high nevertheless. There are positive signals that the markets are recovering in several countries which were badly hit by the financial crisis. Market researchers expect sales in Germany to increase by 2.5 per cent in 2014. As regards the home appliances market, after a positive start during the first six months sales are forecast to exceed last year's figures for the year as a whole.

IFA – where products debut on the world stage
Dr. Christian Göke, Chief Executive Officer of Messe Berlin: "Over the many decades the major international brands have displayed their latest products at IFA. 90 years of IFA means 90 years of innovations. By bringing everyone together, the industries, retailers, consumers and the media, IFA is the most effective communication platform worldwide. "

Jens Heithecker, director of IFA: "The future begins at IFA and that has been the case since 1924. Products making their world debut, the presence of international executives, visionary conference topics and all kinds of entertainment at IFA – that is the blend that for 90 years has continued to fascinate the industry, retailers, the media and the public."
