Fashion students design clothing for the German Pavilion staff at Expo 2015

The winning collection of the competition for the clothing collection for the German Pavilion staff at Expo 2015 has been selected. The judges have chosen the winning group of the in-house competition of ESMOD Berlin, the International University of Art for Fashion. The winning design will be presented on 9th July at the Greenshowroom's salon show during Fashion Week.

"We have chosen a sustainable clothing collection designed by young fashion students of ESMOD Berlin. It underlines, once again, the creative and innovative image of Germany which the German Pavilion at Expo 2015 in Milan will represent", says Dietmar Schmitz, Commissioner General of the German Pavilion and Head of the Division for Trade Fair Policy and Expo Participations at the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy. "The fact that the winning collection will be worn over six months by the 250 staff of the German Pavilion in Milan, an international design and fashion capital, will be another highlight for the winners of the competition", adds Dietmar Schmitz.

The competition began in mid-January and will now end with the selection of the winning collection by a panel of judges consisting of the Commissioner General of the German Pavilion and representatives from the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy, the pavilion management team and Messe Frankfurt. The competition called upon second-year students of ESMOD Berlin to prove their creativity. In addition to fashion aspects, the sustainability of materials and production techniques used also played a role.

The winning collection will be presented on 9th July at the salon show of the Greenshowroom in the context of Fashion Week in Berlin. The Greenshowroom will take place from 8th to 10th July at the Adlon Kempinski Hotel and focus on sustainable high fashion; together with the Ethical Fashion Show Berlin, it is Europe's largest platform for organically, fair-produced fashion during the Berlin Fashion Week. Both events are organized by Messe Frankfurt.

Large-scale, universal world exhibitions are held every five years in rotation with smaller expos. The upcoming World Expo in Milan follows Shanghai (2010), Aichi (2005) and Hanover (2000). Expo 2015 showcases the theme "Feeding the planet, energy for life". It dispenses with prestigious monumental buildings, presenting itself rather as a sustainable Agrofood Park. The German Pavilion has the motto "Fields of Ideas".
