German Natural Stone Award 2013

At the jury meeting held in February, the jury of the German Natural Stone Award nominated, from approximately 60 submitted works, 15 outstanding natural stone projects in the four categories "Public buildings and commercial constructions", "Single family and multi-occupancy houses", "Landscaping and open space design" and "Solid construction pieces and building redevelopment". Of these 15 works, four category winners will be selected on 29th May at the Natural Stone trade fair Stone+tec at the DNV stand in Nuremberg. At this location, one of these winners will receive the coveted German Natural Stone Award 2013 with an endowment of 15,000 €.

The German Natural Stone Award was offered as a prize in November 2012 by the Deutschen Naturwerkstein-Verband (German Natural Stone Association) e.V. together with the Bund Deutscher Architekten (Association of German Architects) BDA. The award is bestowed on exemplary designs and technically contemporary designs of projects within Europe which make significant use of natural stone.

The German Natural Stone Award 2013 focuses on natural stone as a building material, which, with regard to its effects on the environment, sustainability and energy efficiency, is an ideal material. Prizes are awarded to user-orientated projects made from natural stone in interior and outside areas, which represent exemplary high architectural quality, a technically innovative application and a sustainable construction made of natural stone.

The award was given to exemplary designs and technically contemporary designs of projects within Europe which make significant use of natural stone, and which are executed by European specialist natural stone companies.

The prize sum for the competition totals 30,000€. The German Natural Stone Award 2013 is endowed with 15,000€. A further 15,000€ is available for award-winners from other categories. All the nominated projects will be published multiple times and exhibited on 29.05.2013 in Nuremberg within the scope of the Stone+tec 2013, the 18th international specialist trade fair for natural stone and natural stone processing. The jury consists of a total of five renowned architects as well as four representatives of the natural stone industry.

Of the approximately 60 projects submitted for the four categories, the jury selected a total of 15 outstanding projects as candidates for the award. One category winner is chosen by the jury in each category, One of these four category winners then receives the German Natural Stone Award 2013, which is endowed with 15,000€; the other three category winners each receive award money to the sum of 5,000€.
