Tendence, the careers launching pad and new ideas platform

Young, talented and innovative – young designers are the main beneficiaries of the 'Talents' promotional programme. At Tendence 2012, the consumer-goods highlight of the second half of the year, young designers from the fields of product and furniture design and jewellery design can show their work to an international audience of experts. In other words, they can present their ideas, designs and prototypes and test the response of potential manufacturers – a perfect opportunity to found and expand individual networks for their subsequent careers.

Every year, the 'Talents' attract a crowd of enthusiastic visitors with their innovative and trendy ideas. This year, 40 Talents from 11 countries have been selected. 21 of them will show their creative ideas for the fields of tableware and furniture while the other 19 present their works in the Giving section.

Talents at Tendence: 'Talents 10+1'
The Talents promotional programme celebrates its eleventh birthdays this year and to mark this occasion, eleven selected international 'Talents' will take part in a special presentation entitled 'Talents 10+'. This exhibition has been created by Petra Strickstrock / Raumansicht and will be located in Hall 11. Today, the designs of these young people are made in serial production by renowned companies.

Additionally, a book by Hansjerg Maier-Aichen, Professor for Product Design at the University for Design in Karlsruhe, with 60 exciting examples of design ideas that have inspired exhibitors, visitors and journalists, will be published on the occasion of the fair. Entitled '10+1 Talents Messe Frankfurt Eleven Years of Young Design in Progress', the book outlines the careers of these 'Talents' from their first presentation at Tendence or Ambiente to the present day.

Talents at Tendence 2012
40 selected students, university graduates and young designers will present their designs and concepts for the first time at the international Tendence trade fair in August 2012.

They include product designers Miriam Aust and Sebastian Amelung from Kassel who will show their 'like paper' luminaires in the Loft section of Tendence (Hall 11.0). What looks like a lamp shade made of folded paper is actually made of slewed concrete, a manufacturing process that ensures every article is unique. 'Like paper' is the first joint project of designers aust & amelung.

There are slip covers for almost everything – for chairs, tables, benches and, thanks to Katja Wischnewski, for bottles, too. Her idea makes yesterday evening's empties into presentable decorative elements. The idea and design are the work of Hanover-based designers and their label, 'Parole Sonntag', which they founded in 2011.

'Poubellie' is the name given by Sebastian Herbst to his waste-paper basket, which is reminiscent of a roly-poly toy. Throw something into it and it begins to wobble and rights itself automatically. Which makes tidying up much more fun. The young 'Talent' founded his design studio, Otono-design, at the beginning of this year.

'Angela Chair' is an elegant and comfortable chair made of walnut, which young Chinese furniture designer Frank Joe will show at Tendence. A graduate of Beijing Forestry University, his designs are a blend of Chinese and modern European furniture design.

Tendence (24 to 28 August 2012) is the biggest and most important order and trend barometer in the second half of the year. The range of products to be seen covers all levels of quality and is relevant for all channels of distribution. For the retail trade, Tendence is the most important order platform for the Christmas business while bulk buyers can obtain an initial overview of new products for the coming spring and summer season, 2013. With 2, 063 exhibitors from 67 countries and more than 52, 000 trade visitors, last year's Tendence occupied the entire western section of Frankfurt Fair and Exhibition Centre with 130, 000 square metres of exhibition space (gross) in nine exhibition halls.
