ACS: Coatings trend-setters meet in Indianapolis

For American coatings experts, all paths lead to Indianapolis, IN, from May 7−10, 2012. The capital of Indiana, in the heart of the Manufacturing Belt, is the new venue for the American Coatings Show & Conference 2012, which opens its doors at the Indiana Convention Center today. Building on the success of the first two shows, the organizers – the American Coatings Association and Vincentz Network – are confident that the third edition of the biennial event will also set the trend for future developments in coatings, paints, sealants, construction chemicals, and adhesives.

J. Andrew Doyle, President of the American Coatings Association, indicates strong growth in all areas: 427 exhibitors from 19 countries will display their products in 91,300 square feet of exhibition space. An improved New Product Showcase area, Industry Buyer Lounge, and University Village will afford even better business opportunities.

The Conference Program Committee reports an increased level of contributions to the Conference. From a total of 200 submissions, 96 technical papers were chosen as top-quality contributions to the industry discussion.

Over three days, the coatings community can learn about the most recent research results and industrial developments in 16 thematically structured conference sessions. The "Science Today − Coatings Tomorrow" session will offer a visionary stage for the latest research results that might lead to future coatings solutions. Another hot topic will be discussed in the "Smart and Functional" and "Novel Material" sessions. Current developments in coatings that offer a protective response to outside conditions, like self-healing and anti-fingerprint coatings, will be presented.

Exhibitors will hold short, 15-minute presentations on new products, followed by a brief discussion. Admission to these highly informative talks is free, and no registration is required.

The American Coatings Conference will serve as an impressive showcase of originality in coatings when awards are presented at the opening ceremony. The American Coatings AWARD, presented by the American Coatings Association and Vincentz Network, honors the most outstanding Conference paper. The Roon Award, sponsored by the Coatings Industry Education Foundation, recognizes exceptional technical papers in the protective coatings field.

Due to their great success in 2010, two more pre-conference tutorials have been added. Nine 90-minute lectures held before the main conference offer attendees basic information on major coatings topics, including radiation curing and easy-to-clean surfaces.
