| NürnbergMesse invests over 100 million euros in congress centres NürnbergMesse has invested over 100million euros in the expansion of its congress areas in the past years. The two highly modern congress centres, CCN Ost and CCN West-Mitte, now provide a total capacity of 11,000 seats. The floor space has doubled to 6,000 square metres. The enclosed space has grown in width – by as much as a factor of eight – and especially in terms of height: the 12,500 square metres of slatted air-cushion roof spanning the entrance building and forecourt is 20 metres above the floor. The new entrance building, which has enough space for a good 250 detached houses, and the new Brüssel congress hall create an attractive setting for the many events that will take place in this part of the exhibition and congress centre. The new Brüssel hall accommodates 1,000 people, but this is the only thing it has in common with its predecessor, as it is an independent building within CCN Mitte. The futuristic-looking building rests on only five columns, which also extends the space available in the entrance area. Important for congress organizers: all the rooms and halls of CCN Mitte are now located on one level. The idea of placing the hall on a tray is the key to the whole reconstruction of the Mitte entrance, service and congress area at the Nürnberg exhibition centre. The area is one of the oldest parts of the buildings and originates from the 1970s. It would not have been possible to redesign the entrance with the Brüssel hall in its old location in the middle. The room obstructed the view and the walkways. So the first thing was to remove the hall, but its capacity of 1,000 seats made it essential. The visionary solution was to mount the hall on a plateau and move it to the side – much nicer, more interesting and more functional than before. So the hall makes room on the ground floor and moves to the first floor, where it connects via a foyer to the München hall and the other rooms of the CCN Mitte congress area. A staircase provides access to the park. Despite its light and airy appearance, the new Brüssel hall is packed with the most modern congress equipment. Glass facades on two sides allow plenty of daylight into the hall, when it is not blacked out for projection purposes. The walls covered with textiles and the ceiling in a fashionable green shade are unique features: "It's like inside a violin case, " says Bernd A. Diederichs, Managing Director of NürnbergMesse, describing the pleasant feeling in the room. The cladding of the walls and ceiling comprises 1,300 textile panels, whose random arrangement creates a lively design, with the equipment between the panels as if it had been thrown in. The spotlights and floodlights are integrated into the irregular joints of the panels. This makes the hall as changeable as a chameleon – with a modern projection area of some 100square metres for events such as technology or medical congresses, spectacular illumination for car presentations or a light and playful atmosphere for concerts. Here every event is a pleasure to listen to and watch. The newly designed Mitte area is more than an entrance. It is the first point of contact for hundreds of thousands of visitors and therefore the visiting card of NürnbergMesse. The reconstruction had become necessary because the architecture no longer fulfilled the modern requirements for congress atmosphere, visitor registration, catering services and functionality. The new elegant entrance area has been open for exhibition and congress customers since September. The light, open architecture gives visitors a warm welcome. There is lots of space for looking around and finding your way intuitively without signs: here the cloakroom, there the entrance counters, and behind them the clearly visible park and the other exhibition halls. The congress hall and foyer above are reached via a wide staircase. Everything is clearly structured, spacious and focused. "Previously, the view of the site was obstructed, now the dimensions of NürnbergMesse can be seen from the new entrance area. The visitors can look into the heart of the site, with a view of the park and as far as halls 4A and 7A and CCN Ost, " emphasizes Diederichs. write your comments about the article :: © 2010 Exhibition News :: home page |
