Zumtobel showcases innovations at Light+Building fair

When the world's premier lighting fair, Light + Building, closed its doors last Friday, more than 180,000 trade visitors had taken the opportunity to review the latest developments in the lighting and building automation sectors. For its part, the Zumtobel Group was able to report a positive outcome: all of the Group brands present in Frankfurt recorded exceptional levels of interest among visitors and harvested positive feedback on the new products on show.

In terms of visitor numbers, the Zumtobel brand was once again the Group's most popular port of call with over 5,100 registered visitors. On its 650 square-metre stand, the Austrian innovation leader was able to welcome visitors from all over the world, with a notable increase in visits by customers from Eastern and Northern Europe. The main focus of attention was on new technologies, as featured in the LED downlight PANOS Infinity, the LED spotlight Discus and the latest generation of Mellow Light luminaires which, thanks to enhanced lighting technology, boast an exceptional efficiency of 87 percent.

Light + Building also proved a success for Thorn, the international supplier of professional indoor and outdoor lighting. This time around the brand showcased its products and services on a new, larger stand in a different location, with the positive outcome that the number of registered visitors was up from around 1,700 in 2008 to around 1,900 at this year's fair – 80 percent of them from outside Germany. The larger stand enabled Thorn to present its outdoor lighting expertise in even more professional style. As a result, one focus of attention was on new LED street lanterns such as StyleLED and the concept study Adelie Sun, a solar-powered outdoor luminaire.

The Tridonic brand registered a surge in visitor numbers at Light + Building, which also provided the stage for the launch of the lighting component provider's rebranding campaign. Around 40 percent more registered visitors than at the previous Light + Building – including a far more international mix of contacts – came to the Tridonic stand for an update on innovative control gear, lighting management systems and LED modules. Along with the latest LED products, visitors were mainly interested in innovations in conventional lighting technology: new functionalities in dimmable ballasts; integration of lighting control systems; new electronic ballasts for high-intensity discharge lamps; and innovations in emergency lighting.

For the recently founded LEDON Lamp company too, the international lighting fair provided the ideal opportunity to present its innovative portfolio. Interest in the product offering of the young company reached almost sensational levels, with its small 24 square-meter stand attracting a total of 1, 000 registered visitors over the six days of the fair, including many electricians, architects, wholesalers and retailers. The highlights of the show were a 10-watt LED lamp designed to replace a conventional 60-watt incandescent light bulb, and a new candle-shaped LED lamp.
