Everything for roofing and timber construction

Roof+Timber International, taking place between 24 and 27 February 2010 in Cologne, will be buzzing with roofing and timber specialists. A whole host of companies will be presenting their new products at the fair - screws, modern slate roofs, wooden connection systems and much more. The fringe programme also offers lots of interesting events, for example a Green Roofs Forum, a carpenters´ get-together and careers advice. In short, plenty to satisfy the thirst for knowledge of trade visitors to Roof+Timber International.

There is of course much to discover at Roof+Timber International to assist the day-to-day work of roofing professionals. For example the special display on green roofs. The German association of green roofs (Deutscher Dachgärtner Verband) will be a magnet for all those visitors interested in how to construct and maintain green roofs. In a series of lectures, the Green Roof Forum of Cologne (26 February) will be highlighting all the latest trends and developments in green roofs, for example, how to integrate photovoltaics.

One of the many opportunities to do just that will be at the German Timber Construction Conference which this year is focusing on the use of timber construction in high-density areas. The conference features a number of specialist lectures from industry experts, for example on fire protection in multistorey timber-framed buildings, and on good management practice in construction firms. There will of course be plenty of time to network with colleagues at Roof+Timber International. The carpenters, for example, get their chance on the Thursday of the fair. Following a special church service at 10 a.m. in Cologne Cathedral, the guild will be meeting up at Roncalliplatz for a traditional get-together. Around 1,000 carpenters are expected to attend, all wearing the working clothing typical of the trade, and they will be singing guild songs, accompanied by traditional rhythmical clapping. Roof+Timber International is of course also a place for competition. Each day the five-strong national team of carpenters will be displaying their skills in daily public training sessions in the run-up to the forthcoming European championships.
