| SEMICON Japan 2009 SEMI announced that visitor registration for SEMICON Japan 2009, an international exhibition of semiconductor equipment and materials, is now open at www.semiconjapan.org. The exhibition will be held at Makuhari Messe in Chiba, December 2-4, 2009. The exposition will mark its 33rd anniversary, and is expected to host about 1,000 companies, occupying about 2,500 exhibition booths. SEMICON Japan will, as always, focus on two core concepts: Presenting the now and the future of the semiconductor industry, and playing the vital role of facilitating industry-wide networking and business creation. Within the Special Pavilions Feature Zone will be five Special Pavilions dedicated to specialized themes and fields, including MEMS, Nanotechnology, Organic Semiconductors, Manufacturing Engineering, and Business Ventures. In addition, stages will be set up for Special Seminars associated with each pavilion, and for exhibits and technical presentations from exhibitors, including the Japan Society of Applied Physics. The zone will also house the "SEMI Special Feature Zone, " which includes exhibits focusing on ITS (Intelligent Transport Systems), nano-imprint technology and anti-counterfeiting technology. "SEMICON Japan has been the most important exhibition of its kind, and this year is no exception, " said Yoichi 'Hank' Nakagawa, president of SEMI Japan. "The challenges that face our industry – whether economic, technical, or production – are overcome by the industry working together to address the issues. At SEMICON Japan 2009, the best approaches to solutions will be presented, discussed, and prepared for implementation to move the industry forward. These are exciting times, as the biggest advances often come from the biggest challenges. We expect to see many of these advances at SEMICON Japan 2009." SEMICON Japan 2009 will feature three keynote addresses focusing on emerging technologies which could serve as drivers to bring the industry out of the global economic crisis. The keynote speech on the first day will address "image sensors, " covering remarkable technology innovation. On the second day, "Electric Vehicles (EV)" will be the keynote as automobile companies are accelerating EV development activities and some have launched EV into the global market.
