| Global Shippers' Forum The very first conference of the Global Shippers' Forum (GSF) is to be convened in Dubai this November. It will focus on the challenges facing shipper's globally, the global solutions to assist the industry emerge stronger and more resilient in the future, and the impact locally on industry. The GSF, being organized alongside SITL Dubai, under the theme "Finding local options for global freight solutions, " and will take place from 3 to 4 November 2009 at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre. Shippers' representative organizations from Europe, Asia and North America will be giving their 'local' perspective on the issues and solutions. "Running the first ever GSF alongside the SITL Dubai exhibition provides a valuable opportunity for key stakeholders in the logistics and transportation industry globally to meet with peers, network, explore the latest industry solutions and trends, and build relationships that can help their businesses prosper, " said Mohamad Bader-Eddin, Show Director of SITL Dubai. "We are very pleased to host the GSF alongside SITL Dubai. The Middle East is receiving significant attention from transportation and logistics players worldwide. Due to substantial investments in infrastructure, as well as economic growth, the region remains attractive for investors, and so, what better place for the world's shipper representatives to congregate and hold their first ever conference" added Bader-Eddin. The conference will commence with an opening address by Dick van den Broek Humphreij, Chairman European Shippers' Council, followed by a session titled "Challenges I See, Solutions I look for". This session features Filip Beckers, Transport Procurement Manager, Masterfoods, Ram Menon, Head of Cargo, Emirates Airlines, Dirk Van Den Bosch, Chief Commercial Officer, DP World and Ben Hackett, Managing Director, Hackett Associates Ltd who will address the obstacles, challenges in Europe, Asia and the Middle East which impede efficient logistics and supply chain management and the solutions that can overcome these. This will be followed by a session focussed on Intermodal alternatives to help shippers cut their logistics costs, improve efficiency and streamline with their supply chains. Peter Knopf, CEO, SAT Albatros and Antony Bennan, Head of Relationship Management and Business Development, Danzas AEI Emirates LLC are among the speakers at this session. A panel of shippers including Willem Buitenkamp, Sunchem and Johan Jemdahl, Head of Distribution Logistics, Ericsson will take place following the second session. Transportation to and from the Middle East will take centre stage at the conferences' third session addressed by Biji Thomas, Transport Manager Supply Chain & Logistics & Customs, Schneider Electric and many others. The ending of liner shipping conferences in European trades should enable shippers and carriers alike to focus far more on service quality improvements. But is this really possible in the current economic climate? Valuable insights will be given and shared by speakers including Ben Hackett, Managing Director, Hackett Associates Ltd and Jean Louis Cambon, Head, Michelin Ocean Management Committee Michelin and John Lu, Chairman, Asian Shippers' Council; Michael Berzon, Chairman Ocean Transportation Committee, NITL and Venkatesh Ramachandran, Vice-Chairman, Western India Shippers Council. The concluding session will address the challenges in air freight.
