| The Judges’ Decision Is Final In The Fifth Eurobike Award: The judges' decision is in on the winners of the EUROBIKE AWARD 2009: Of the 77 winning products, eight will receive a GOLD Award for particularly outstanding design quality. The experts on the jury certainly had their hands full at the judging session in Hannover on August 19. After all, the international bicycle industry had submitted a total of 400 innovative entries from 25 different countries - compared to last year, this translates as an increase of 11 percent (2008: 361 entries from 27 countries). "The number of winning entries is convincing proof that the bike industry is banking on innovation this year more than ever before. Judging all the products submitted and choosing the winners proved to be an incredible challenge, " explains Nils Holger Moormann, chairperson of the jury of experts. The "Concepts" category, in which students were invited to participate free of charge, produced four of the winners, selected from the total 41 products entered here. The awards will be officially presented at the Awards Ceremony in Friedrichshafen on September 2, 2009, during EUROBIKE 2009, the international bicycle tradeshow (September 2 to 5, 2009). This is when the special EUROBIKE Green Award will also be presented for the second time. All the prize-winning entries will be exhibited during the tradeshow in a special display in the West EG foyer (ground floor). This competition is already being hosted by Messe Friedrichshafen and designed and organized by iF International Forum Design GmbH in Hannover for the fifth time. Stefan Reisinger, project manager of EUROBIKE and member of the Messe Friedrichshafen Board of Directors, is delighted: "Not only has the EUROBIKE Show outdone itself again this year and attained record results, there were also more entries than ever before in this year's EUROBIKE AWARD. Now in its fifth year, this award has already built such a solid reputation on the market that taking part has become virtually obligatory for the international market leaders in this industry. This confirms the EUROBIKE concept has what it takes to be a key international tradeshow in the bicycle industry." Jury member Gunnar Fehlau from pressedienst-fahrrad, Göttingen: "It is exciting to see that the subject of bicycles and cycling has now become so popular that the manufacturers no longer focus primarily on the 'traditional bicycle'. This has become particularly noticeable in the helmets and bags segments - now the corresponding equipment and accessories are available for all different types of bicycles." Manufacturers, designers and engineers from all over the world submitted a total of 400 entries in the categories of All Terrain Bike / Travellerbike / Trekkingbike, BMX bike / Dirtbike, Citybike, Cross / Fitness / Speed bike, Cruiser / Designbike, E-Bike, Family Transportation / Kids' bike, Foldingbike, Mountainbike Downhill / Enduro / Freerider, Mountainbike Hardtail, Mountainbike Full-Suspension, Roadbike, Special-Purpose bike, Clothes, Electronic Components / Components, Frames and Accessories as well as "Concepts", in which students were invited to participate. Under the direction of Nils Holger Moormann (Designer, Aschau am Chiemsee/D), the jury of experts consisted of Daniel Fikuart (aktiv Radfahren, Regensburg/D), Gunnar Fehlau (pressedienst-fahrrad, Göttingen/D), Urs Rosenbaum (Ride Business, Winterthur/CH), Butch Gaudy (Velobaze AG, Bern/CH) and Prof. Dr. h. c. Erik Spiekermann (Edenspiekermann branding and design agency, Berlin/D). The products and concepts submitted were evaluated on the basis of the following criteria: aerodynamics, efficiency, ergonomics, functionality, utility value, design quality, weight, degree of innovation, comfort, loading, brand value/branding, choice of materials, service, safety, stability, environmental friendliness, workmanship and WDM (wet, dark & muddy). write your comments about the article :: © 2009 Exhibition News :: home page |
