CIPS-09 To Welcome Pet Product Business In Guangzhou

When it opens its doors in November, Asia's most influential international pet and aquarium product trade show is set to attract an even bigger international audience than in previous years. A record 500 exhibitors have already signed up for the 13th edition of the China International Pet Show (CIPS) – not least a reflection of the importance of China as a suppliers market for the pet industry worldwide. With nearly all of the exhibition space at the China Import & Export Fair Pazhou Complex in Guangzhou already booked, the show will be 30 per cent bigger than last year. In the run-up to the show visitors will benefit from a relaunched website which allows them to fully prepare their visit, from searching for products and producers to booking interpreters. At the show itself international visitors can take advantage of additional services at the new International Visitors Lounge.

Improved standards of living and China's one-child policy have led to more families taking an interest in sharing their home with pets. An estimated 100 million pets are kept in China at the moment – with three million living in Beijing alone. The attraction of ornamental fish in beautiful aquariums is equally on the increase.

"There is a noticeable shift in demand, " Cheng Yang, President of China Great Wall International Exhibition, observed. "Retailers, wholesalers and buyers are looking for more high-quality products, both from European, US and Chinese manufacturers. The 'cheap and cheerful' pet and aquarium goods which dominated the market years ago are of less interest to consumers these days. This development is fully reflected in the type of exhibitors and visitors we are expecting for this year's show."

CIPS is the most important business platform of its kind in Asia, where retailers, wholesalers, importers and exporters meet with manufacturers of pet and aquarium products. Organized by China Great Wall International Exhibition Company and Nürnberg Global Fairs, the show has continually grown since 1997. It is again this year supported by the China Fisheries Association and China Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Association.

For the first time this year, the show will feature a special display area for fishes to provide a better platform for the live fish trade and to further promote the consumer market for aquarium fishes. The sheer variety of products and services – from novelty aquariums and pet furniture to grooming and veterinary advice – goes well beyond pet and fish. Reptile tanks, birdcages, outdoor fountains or equestrian sports goods can be equally found at the show, which has attracted an increasing number of trade visitors year on year.

Relaunched website allows perfect preparation
To further improve their services for trade visitors, the show organisers have added new features to the website www.cipscom.com which has just been relaunched. Visitors will now be able to search for products or product groups, producers and exhibitors, or simply key in general search terms. The results will provide handy links to company websites and potted company profiles. Facilities for online registration, booking hotel rooms or even interpreters are already popular features of the site, where a detailed hall plan can also be downloaded. The new features will allow visitors to perfectly plan their stay and make the most of their time at the trade show.

International Visitors Lounge
The service angle has always been an important element of CIPS, which is keen to attract visitors from all over the world. International visitors in particular will find new and improved services at the event. Frank Venjakob, Director Events of Nürnberg Global Fairs said: "International trade buyers are invited to use the visitor lounge as a drop-in centre to socialize and to use free access to the internet, or to enjoy a complimentary drink over a business conversation."

Second World Pet Summit
As last year, the trade show will be accompanied by the World Pet Summit, a discussion forum for international experts. At this year's event, new data will be presented on the Chinese consumer market and manufacturing industry. A detailed schedule will be available in August.

Last year's trade show held at Beijing attracted 25, 000 visitors – the organisers are confident that this year's event at Guangzhou will see at least as many. The China International Pet Show opens on 16 November 2009 for four days.
