Ten Years of Innovation for North America

From April 20 to 23 the SAE 2009 World Congress at the Cobo Center in Detroit, Michigan, USA, opens its doors to experts from every branch of the mobility industry - at a time in which, above all, North American vehicle manufacturers face enormous challenges. This makes those innovations which will secure future market shares even more important. Thanks to the unique combination of engineering and consulting services, developing new technologies is one of the MBtech Group's primary goals for the North American market. In Detroit, the company will present its capabilities with a press conference, its own exhibition stand and expert lectures.

The motto of this year's event expresses just how urgently the automotive industry required new, sustainable vehicle concepts: "Racing to Green Mobility". The MBtech Group has its headquarters in Sindelfingen in Germany and supports automobile manufacturers worldwide with tailored solutions. MB-technology NA LLC, the group's US subsidiary located in Troy, Michigan, is responsible for realizing a large number of these projects. Founded exactly ten years ago, the company now has four branches throughout North America.

At the press conference on April 21, 2009 (exhibition stand 1269, 2.00 p.m. until 2.30 p.m.) Hartmut Tresp, the President of the MBtech Group, will explain how the company aims to strengthen its future US activities in the four segments: powertrain solutions, vehicle engineering, electronics solutions and consulting. In addition, two MBtech experts will also present interesting lectures at the SAE 2009 World Congress: Horst Schubotz, the Head of Functional Safety at MBtech electronics solutions, will report on the effects of the new ISO standard on planning and implementing safety-relevant vehicle functions. Dr. Peter Dittrich, the Head of MBtech Powertrain at the company's Munich branch, presents the results of a numerical study of the mixture preparation in a small engine carburetor.

The latest generation of vehicle steering wheels promises to deliver substantial additional benefits, not only through new actuators but also through infotainment systems such as radio and navigation devices. However these systems have recently been subject to frequent criticism: Although the range of functions has expanded enormously, the system-related failures have also increased.

That is why MBtech has extended its range of Test Engineering services to cover the infotainment domains. Until now the function tests for the vehicle electronics components have been regarded as especially complex, above all due to the human-machine interfaces and the specific communication systems. At the SAE exhibition stand at the Cobo Center, MBtech electronics solutions presents a testing system utilizing PROVEtech:TA which enables an integrated test of these components. Based on standard PC technologies running Microsoft Windows 2000, XP or Vista, the tool suite is suitable for analyses in both the laboratory and in the vehicle. The software can process CAN and MOST messages as well as discrete signals, as the platform integrates the CAN and MOST hardware along with analogue and digital I/O interfaces. Using a camera, the test logs can be supplemented by video sequences and/or photos of system reactions and the actions of the test operators.

Whereas radio, telephone and navigation have essentially become the norm in passenger vehicles, the owners of luxury sedans expect additional and considerably more extravagant features - ultimately every vehicle should represent an absolutely unique product. In Detroit, MBtech's vehicle engineering segment - the contact for every vehicle development, integration and testing issue as well as manufacturing engineering - displays exceptional project examples drawn from Daimler's Maybach luxury sedan.

At the special request of a customer, the specialists from MBtech's electronics solutions segment integrated numerous software and hardware components for infotainment and office applications into the luxury vehicle - including game consoles, printers and faxes. With MBtech's assistance the configuration and equipment can be expanded to fulfill almost any customer request: Installing camera systems, chauffeur functions or exclusive security technologies represent popular challenges.

MBtech's services contribute to making vehicles more economical, more environmentally friendly and their electrical and electronics systems more reliable; In addition, the engineering and consulting specialist also assists with creating unique selling features for its customer's products through individual, custom-made editions. MBtech thus possesses a range of services which serve to substantially strengthen the North American mobility industry.
