And the winner is… award presentations at the exhibition
The presentation of the "Old People's Home Future Award 2009" takes place during the festive Blue Hour at 6.15 p.m. on Tuesday, 24 March. This management award is organized for the first time by the elderly care magazine "Altenheim". The award under the motto of "A Place to Live" pays tribute to innovative projects initiated by home management. Special feature: the entrants short-listed by the jury present their projects during the Blue Hour. Whoever makes the best impression on the invited visitors wins the award.

The "Altenpflege Award 2009", which is also worth € 5, 000 for this year's winner, will be presented at the Nursing Care Congress on 24 March. The theme of the competition in 2009 is "Easing the Pain" and the award will be presented to care initiatives worth copying that have led to elderly people suffering less pain.

The presentation of the "Architecture and Health Care Innovation Award" takes place on the AIT stand at 5.30 p.m. on Tuesday, 24 March. The Innovation Award pays tribute to industrial companies, architects and designers for their products and ideas that emphasize the importance of architectural quality in the "health, social and living" areas. All the products entered are presented in a special show on the AIT stand throughout the exhibition.

Special show presents spectacular innovations
The successful special show "lebensräume" (living areas) at Altenpflege+ProPflege presents spectacular innovations in architecture, interior design, interior decoration, public design and product design for the sixth time – this year's focus is "Future Care". The area located in hall 3 gives visitors the unique opportunity to take a look into the future of patient care.

lebens(t)räume – competition for students
The international students competition "lebens(t)räume" takes place at the special show again in 2009. The competition focuses on visions and problem solutions for buildings, rooms, products and services based on the aspects of universal design and assisted living. The competition called for "design for all" and not "design for the elderly". The award presentation takes place on Tuesday, 24 March.

Future Forum deals with the call for single rooms
The Future Forum organized by the association bpa – Bundesverband privater Anbieter sozialer Dienste and the "Altenheim" magazine takes up the issue of "Single rooms as standard in homes – what happens to the existing homes?", when experts focus mainly on the question of financing. The forum will be opened by bpa President Bernd Meurer and chaired by Monika Gaier, Chief Editor of "Altenheim". The event takes place in Sydney hall of CCN Ost from 2 – 4 p.m. on Wednesday, 25 March.

Modern home economics under the motto of "Living, well-being, dining à la carte"
Increasing attention is being paid to the well-being of the elderly. Proven practical ideas and concepts for this are presented at the "International Domestic Services Forum" in hall 5, which will be opened by Bavarian Minister Christine Haderthauer on 25 March. The best practice projects presented after this give elderly care staff and management an insight into the strategies of other institutions and responsible organizations.

Four forums for decision-makers in the sector
The visitors at Altenpflege+ProPflege in 2009 again have the opportunity to use many free information platforms. For the first time, these forums are divided into various blocks of care themes and identified by different colours for better orientation.

The "Old People's Home Management Forum" (blue) in halls 3 and 5 offers decision-makers from inpatient elderly care the necessary information and tips on issues like sourcing aids and appliances, admission and discharge management, quality and cost effectiveness in running old people's homes, catering and personnel marketing.

The "Home Care Forum" (orange) in hall 2 provides extensive background knowledge for managers and proprietors of outpatient care services, care management and care staff in the home care field. At the forum chaired by the federal association, Bundesverband Medizintechnologie e. V. (BVMed), recognized experts explain and discuss issues like sourcing and quality, care of wounds, bedsores, incontinence and stomas, and the principles of palliative care.

The many pioneering themes of the talks at the "Catering and Housekeeping Forum" (green) in hall 4 include the attractive design of the living environment, tableware, planning and equipping home kitchens and the use of specialized data processing solutions.

The first item on the programme of the "Elderly Care Forum" (red) on 25 March, also in hall 4, is the selection of the "Quiet Heroes" – people who are dedicated to the well-being of patients in elderly care institutions beyond their occupational duties. They are chosen by the readers of the elderly care magazine "Altenpflege". After this the Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth presents its campaign "A Vocation in Modern Elderly Care". This forum with interesting speakers and the winning entries in the competition "Modern Elderly Care Today" is intended for trainees and care staff and management.
